[Part 10]

Despite all the bravado and colorful words that he'd come up with, Kay could not get over the fact that he was desperate to get close to Vanda. No matter how much he denied the fact that he could never be with Vanda, he still desired to get close to her. He had tried reasoning it, saying that Vanda was an interesting soul similar to his. But while the fact was true, it didn't answer his desire at all.

He might have to admit, after all, that he was falling for the woman.

Kay figured that at least it was a good thing that Vanda was a vampire. If Vanda had been a human... then his troubles would have been so much crazier. Kay could never change his human lover ever, and hope that they would stay blessedly untouched by the Vampire Community. The International Council had been so desperate chasing after him that they would gladly take anyone who had contact with him.

But vampire or human; the fact was that Kay could not love the woman. He had always prided his need for freedom above his desire to love, and this was a classic case. If he loved Vanda, it meant that he needed to give up his freedom. Vanda would be helpless to stop him, and he would be unable to run due to his need to love her. It was a lose-lose situation that Kay had long reasoned to himself.

But if only the matters of the heart was so easily explained.

All Kay could do was to take the days one by one, working with the lovely woman as she focused on making her TV show a huge success. The proposal had already been approved with the appropriate funding –that he had aided her in getting. The advertisements had already hit the screens Nationwide, and his adding his growing reputation to the upcoming TV show was boosting the anticipation. Vanda herself had brought around her handful of participants, and Kay had the honor to meet the young, fresh-faced vampire brother of Renee Devaux.

Roger-Luc Devaux was like a little brother to them all, and Kay found much pleasure in teaching him the finer points of being a vampire. It was as if he had unknowingly adopted a new fledging vampire beneath his wings, and he relished in the refresher course. He remembered the times when he himself had been unsure of his lineage, and the pros and cons his blood brought. He and his fledging vampires had experimented together, and he remembered them fondly.

That pair of brothers that had been his first brothers, his first friends, and his first vampires... he was disheartened to find the situation boiling between the two blood brothers.

Through the months that took for hectic shooting and filming, the North American Council met with a few attacks from their enemy. Two happenings of attempted bombing on the Leconte Securities Building had caused alarm to be raised through Washington, and a security breach had been found in the designer Louis's studio in Lyon. Since the Head of Securities had been unable to set foot ever again in his own homeland, Kay had heard from Vanda and Roger-Luc that Louis had been rightfully pissed off when Jean-Jacques could not give an answer as to who had stolen his designs for the spring season.

In other times, the Russians were less tactful. Chris had been ambushed during his delivery of weapons testing to Jack's laboratory, but thankfully had been able to reach Jean-Jacques and Louis for help. Jack and Laz had almost been taken by surprise when a garlic bomb had been thrown into their lab, but installed securities had saved both vampires' lives, and killed the invading Russians before any damage could be done.

From listening to Roger-Luc's enthusiastic updates, Kay had begun to know every single one of the North American Council despite having never met a few of them. Endlessly, the three of them gossiped during breaks between the shootings, exchanging ideas of what the Russian could be planning. Kay kept his promise and never spoke about the Council to anyone.
