I didn't sleep well last night. I couldn't sleep—I was too busy trying to figure out a certain blonde-haired girl. And why she would have to keep a guitar locked away in a closet.

I swung my legs over the side of my bed, my eyes spotting my guitar in the corner. I guess we really do have something in common.

I got dressed and grabbed my stuff for school, heading downstairs into the kitchen. My mom and dad were in there, having their breakfast.

"Where's Amy?" I asked.

"She's not going to school. She has a doctor's appointment today," Mom said.

I silently nodded and sat at the table, trying to ignore the heavy atmosphere. Mom came over and put a plate of waffles in front of me before kissing my head.

"Mom," I complained, but I smiled, hoping to lighten up the mood.

My dad finished up his plate and stood. "Okay, I'm headed out," he said as he put on his jacket. "Be careful," he said to mom, kissing her.

The door opened as Dad was just leaving and Connor walked in, his car keys in his hand.

Be careful. His words echoed in my head, even though I didn't want them to.

"I have arrived. You can be happy again," he said, bowing.

"Actually, I feel the opposite," I deadpanned. Connor proceeded to smack me over the head and I yelped at his attack.

"Hey, Maria. Hey, Will," Connor said, greeting my parents. He sat at the table with his elbows up, across from me.

"Where's Ames?" He questioned, noticing her absence.

"She's going to the doctor today." Mom said and she put a plate of waffles in front of him and we ate in silence.

"Okay, it's getting close to eight. We gotta head out," Connor said, picking up his plate and car keys. "Thank you so much for breakfast!"

My mom hummed pleasantly in response and waved goodbye.

We got in his car a few minutes later and were on our way. For the first time, between us, it was silent. And it was never silent between us. But I was too busy wracking my brain.

"Okay man, we're alone. What's up?"

"Nothing, I'm just thinking."

"Luke, seriously. I'm not putting up with that 'nothing' bullshit."

I said nothing.

We turned a corner and I sunk into my seat and looked straight ahead.

"Is it about Erika?"

"How did you know?"

"You've been acting like this ever since you came back from her house yesterday. What happened?"

"Okay, what I say does not leave this car. Got it?"

"Got it."

"So I was at her house, right? And her maid walked in and said her dad was on his way home. This girl picks up all my stuff and tells me to follow her into her room and get in her closet."

"What the hell?"

"Exactly. So I'm in the closet and I see this trunk. And I open it."

"You went through her stuff? Why?"

"I was curious!"

"So you went through her stuff and what did you find? Angels? Dead bodies? Hannah Montana?"
