Camden's POV:
A voice of confusion calls my name and I turn around awkwardly. I give her a small smile before saying Hi. We left off at an awkward phase in our friendship..

"What are you doing here?" she asks. I'll admit I did miss her.

"Just a road trip. School ended early so now, we're spending summer here." My dad explains. I glance at him before Maizy.

"Oh... Well, Howdy." she says and tips an imaginary cowboy hat. I grin.

Maizy's POV:
I try to keep positive but part of me wants to be angry with Camden. I walk in the house and up the stairs to my bedroom. I toss my school bag on my desk and plop on my bed with a sigh. I squeeze my eyes shut and enjoy the silence. That is until its interrupted by my mom.

"Get ready!" my mom hollers from down the hall.

"For," I shout back.

"Volleyball Practice." my mom replies from my door with a 'duh' tone.

"Shit," I mumble before getting up. I slip on the usual attire before grabbing my duffle bag and tossing it down the stairs.

"Need a ride?" Camden asks, holding up his car keys.

"Nope. My friend's picking me up." I say, Popping the P in Nope. Just like that I hear a honk and a crack of thunder.

I run out to Siena's car, dodging rain drops, and hop in the passenger side.

"Hey boo." I say, tossing my bag into the back seat.

"Hhaayy" she exaggerates. You know that chill friend who's just naturally weird? That's Siena.

"So, here's the news," I start as she pulls into the left lane.

"You know Camden, the dude I told you about?" I ask her. She nods.

"Yeah, you mean the one who you used to be in love with? You told me." she answers, making me roll my eyes.

"I'm NOT in love with him. I don't have feelings," I argue back. She chuckles.

"Anyyway. He's here. At my house." I finish. I can hear her screeching internally. I raise an eyebrow and stare at her.

"What?! But that's insane! School isn't even over!" she starts. So much for 'chill.'.

"Hakuna your tatas. Its over for him. He was a senior," I explain. She sighs and pulls into the parking lot. Time for practice.

Once practice ends, Siena and I head back to my house. She is spending the night after all. She pulls in my driveway and we get out to smell the grill on. We head into the house and out to the back patio.

"Howdy mama." Siena says, giving my mom a hug. She smiles and flips a burger patty.

"Howdy Hey," she replies.

"Yum." I say, slipping my knee pads off.

"Oh, yikes maze.. Those staank!" Siena exclaims, pretending to gag.

"Hey.. Siena... Come here." I suggest, smirking and walking over to her slowly.

"Ohh, no no. Don't you dare!" she says, cautiously backing up. I hold up my knee pads to her face and she takes off running back in my house.

"Come back here, coward!" I shout running after her. We're on the stairs when I grab her hand and we both tumble down the steps.

"Gotcha!" I say, catching my breath.

"Oh I'll get my revenge, just you wait." she says in between breathes. I chuckle and stand up, pulling her with me.

"Only in your dreams," I reply, shaking my head.

"Alright, dinner's ready!" my mom shouts back into the house. I grab the lettuce, tomatoes, and ketchup and mustard and head to the patio. I sit next to Siena and across from Camden and eat in silence.

"Jeez, girls... You're not hungry are ya?" my mom teases. Siena and I both look at each other and burst into laughter.

"Hey, we just came from practice.. What's not to expect?" Siena says and shrugs.

"True... How was practice?" my mom asks. I sigh because all we did was 45 minutes of conditioning and 15 of scrimmage.

"Well.." I start looking at Siena and see her eyes light up in anger.

"OKAY SOOO. There's this freshman on our team and shes sort of really bad. AND Maizy wasn't on my team for scrimmage and the girl wouldn't set to me and it pissed me off!!" She says going on a rant. I giggle to myself and take another bite of my burger.

"Yep. And she couldn't close a block. Coach kept yelling at her last practice too. That's why we just conditioned for a solid 45 minutes." I explain. I forgot Camden was here.. Now its awkward.

Since We've been on the subject of volleyball, I finally change the subject by asking Camden how he is.

"I'm alright. Could be-" He starts but is interrupted by a sweaty Jackson who just came from football practice. Here, we have soccer in the fall, and football and volleyball starting mid spring.

"Hey, ma. Can Camden and I go to a party?" Jackson asks. My mom looks at him skeptically and nods. She's pretty easy going. Trusting.

"Eat first. And only if your sister goes."  she explains and I drop my fork. I'm not into social obligations and forced conversations... No thank you.

"Please, Maze?" my asshat of a brother pleads. I sigh and roll my eyes.

"Fine, whatever." I say. Just great....
