"Maze, wake up," Daniel shakes me awake, snapping me into reality.
"We're almost there." he informs. My stomach turns in knots as I grow uneasy and stiff in my seat.
"Stop being so nervous. I can hear your heart beat, you're a mess." He adds on to his many lines of dialogue.
"How can you tell? What are you, some psychotic creep?" I scowl, furrowing my brows. He bellows a laugh before shaking it off.
"Have you forgotten? Its a wolf thing, I guess." He answers. I bite my lip, trying to think of a good comeback.
"I wouldn't call you a wolf. Where's your pack? You're more of a dog in my eyes." I reply. I could tell this threw him off a bit, but not by much.
"I'm more of a lone wolf. More mysterious that way, don't you think?" He pokes back. I grit my teeth together and roll my eyes.
"Yeah, sure."
"Glad we're on the same page, duchess."

Looking at the parking lot full of cars, my nerves start going crazy. We're supposed to fight creatures with this big crowd? I turn my head to look at Daniel, who's already staring at me.
We technically trespassed to get in here."Stay here, I'll deal with it." He says, but before I can object, his phone rings.
"Do we need to send backup? Its not going to be easy," Is all I hear the loud speaker mumble before he steps out of his car and outside. So he lied.
It's not an easy mission. But why did he want me here?
"Alright, Banshee. Turns out I need you." He says with a sly grin coming across his face. I roll my eyes, stepping out of the car and onto the gravel. Daniel takes my hand and starts leading me to where we need to go. I should've pulled my hand away but I didn't. But god knows I really should have. One rock after another, we made our way jumping down until we reached the bottom of the canyon. We started on the south rim.
The sun started to sink behind the canyon walls. Daniel had led me into the canyon, and I gotta say it was freezing down here. Being in spandex and a hoodie wasn't the best attire for this trip. My right hand, still linked with Daniel's hand, started to go numb and tingly. Sounds bounced off the walls, making me grow weary of what I was getting myself into. As we walked on the dirt path, I could spot orange light, twitching on and off. The pleasant smell of a campfire relieved me and put me at ease. There was a village down here, but I thought it was deeper into the canyon.
"That's it," Daniel muttered, giving my hand a squeeze. I looked up at him, eyes wide.
"We're here for a bonfire? You took me out of state for a fucking bonfire?!" I asked, quickly yanking my hand away from his. He scolded, turning his attention back to me.
"That's not a camp fire, duchess. That's where the demon is.." he whispered, sending shivers up and down my body. He lied again. There should be back up here.
"Before I risk my life and all, I need to do something," He starts. A confused look spreads across my face right before he grabs my wrists, yanking me toward him and crashes his lips with mine. I stiffin up and let his lips longer on mine before quickly shoving him away with a scream. He stumbled - no he flew. That boy flew across the desert canyon grounds so far, but I didn't know why. Daniel gets up slowly, grunting at the pain. Shaking the dirt off of him, he walks back toward me, slowly and cautiously.
"Looks like you're evolving faster than I thought." Daniel whispers. Whatever he was trying to do here, I wanted no part in it.
"Look, if you want to conjure some demon spawn from the great beyond or something, that's all fine and dandy. Just wait for me to leave before you start." I say, stepping back. He cocked a brow in confusion before I shook my head, starting back to where we came from.
"Maizy no! I need you for this!" Daniel exclaims, running after me. I stop dead in my tracks when I see three familiar faces coming down the path we took.
"What the fuck is going on?" I question, hoping this is all a dream. Camden was walking over to us, along with Siena, and Jackson. Camden's brown eyes contained anger and flakes of burning orange. Not even glancing at me, he headed straight toward Daniel, taking a blow to his face.
"Camden, don't!" I exclaim, watching the two exchange punches. There's been enough fighting already today and I was not going to allow another fight to break out. Running over, I grab Daniel's shirt, in attempt to yank him away, but my luck I was successful. Camden was burning with anger, and if something didn't happen quick, he'd literally be burning. I'm quick to throw myself on him, wrapping my arms around his neck and pushing him forward. His skin was almost boiling hot, but that didn't phase me. If this helped, we'd all be saved from what could be mass destruction. Camden's skin grows cooler, until he throws me off of him.
"Maizy, don't fucking do that, I could've hurt you!" He yells, his brown eyes back to normal. I sigh and shake my head.
"So? You didn't, did you? No? So shut up." I growl back. He shakes his head and takes a deep breath, letting out a long sigh.
"This is actually perfect, you guys can help me corner this person while I read from the books. This demon is pretty fucking powerful and we're gonna need all the help we can get." Daniel explains, wiping some blood away from his nose. After minutes and minutes of bickering, we all decided on a plan.
Camden and Jackson are supposed to hold the body down while Siena holds the head still and I stand with Daniel in case something goes wrong. It should work.
Grabbing my hand, Camden walks beside me, keeping his eyes forward.
"I won't let anything happen to you, okay?" He whispers. I nod, feeling butterflies flutter in my stomach. He squeezes my hand for reassurance and smiles.
Caught up in the moment, I felt that there was something I needed to say. Something that I should've said a long time ago. Even if it wasn't the best timing, he needed to know.
"I love you."
