    Kim's P.O.V.

My head swam with questions but one in particular stood out to me: when would we be claimed? And by who? Chiron told us that it was usually at the campfire that they have every night after dinner. I knew my godly parent had to be one of the male gods because I lived with my mom and she would always talk about how my dad was a scrub and that he left her with a nuisance to take care of on her own.

"You must be the campers; nice to meet you! I'm Grover," a new voice jolted me out of my thoughts.

The voice belonged to a average red headed boy with curly hair and a Rasta cap. He smiled wide, which distracted me from the fact that he had goat legs. Apparently this was social norm here because he paraded around without the camp without pants and with hooves.

Alex had been so quiet, I had forgotten she was there. Our nice, quiet walk was disrupted by a goat.

"You don't mind if I ask about your lower half belonging to a donkey, do you?" she questioned as she stared at his legs.

He looked down quizzically to see what she meant. His widened when he understood the question.

"Oh! I'm a satyr. I'm half goat, actually," he nervously chuckled.

"Uh-huh," Alex nodded her head slowly whilst still keep her gaze intently on his lower half.

"Well, Grover," I chimed to break the tension. "What's up?"

His smile returned once more and his excitement bubbled out of him.

"You guys are going to need clothes and stuff, so Chiron wanted me to tell you that later this week we'll pick up some of your stuff at your homes. Your parents were already notified on your whereabouts. Until then, Chiron told me to give you these clothes," he explained. "I'm also here to help you get situated into the Hermes cabin. I know it's a bit rowdy and it's full of kleptomaniacs, but they all mean well. I'm sure you'll get along fine with them," he handed us two stacks of clothes that included a pair of undergarments, pajamas, and an outfit.

He then led us to a wooden cabin labeled 'Hermes'. Grover held the door open to the both of us and we stepped in. It was a large, open room with multiple bunk beds and trundles scattered across it. There were drawers with stickers and graffiti to individualize them. It gave a sense of home.

"You two can find any empty bunks," Grover stated.

I walked to a bunk bed that had plain white sheets. I sat on the edge and ran my hand across the blanket. The ends of my lips curled into a small smile.

"That one?" Alex's voice broke the silence.

"Yeah, I think so," I nodded, still unsure.

"Dibs on the top bunk then!" My friend's body a blur as it flopped on the bed above my own. She stayed still and sank into the mattress face first. A giggle escaped my throat and she quickly joined in, bringing a more comfortable atmosphere.

A loud horn interrupted our giggle fest.

"I'm glad you guys are making yourselves at home, but that means it's dinner time. I'll see you guys later," Grover turned and made his way out of the door and presumably to the dining pavilion.

--------

Once we finally reached the pavilion, it was bustling with kids and a cacophony of different voices. I made a b-line to the Hermes table, memorizing where it was from the tour earlier. I plopped myself in the corner in attempt to avoid as much social interaction as possible. I was unfortunate in this case.

Two very similar looking boys sat in the seats in front of me and waited for me to speak. Once they realized I wasn't, one of the boys opened his mouth to speak.

"Hello, gentlemen. I assume you're from the Hermes cabin?" Alex piped up from behind me. She took a seat beside me, and I internally breathed a sigh of relief. I took this time to analyze them. They had caramel curls and bright blue eyes that radiated mischief. Freckles dotted their faces like constellations and I was tempted to count them.

I was far too dazed to realize that the two and Alex were speaking. It wasn't until I heard my name that I was knocked into reality.

"This is my friend, Kim. Kim James," I recognized her voice.

"Wha.?" I had no clue what in the actual fuck was going on.

"I was just introducing us to these guys," Alex explained.

"Oh! I'm Travis Stoll, and this is my older brother, Connor," the shorter of the two chirped.

"It's a pleasure to meet you two," Alex stuck her hand out to the boys to shake. In which they happily did.

"Welcome to camp, Alex and Kim. And we'll make sure the Hermes cabin gives you two a warm welcome," Connor said.

The next hour and a half was spent making small talk. Most of the speaking was done by Alex because I really wasn't in the mood to talk to new people.

"Wanna sit with us during the campfire?" Travis chimed with a gleam in his eyes.

My head popped up at mention of the campfire. Maybe I'll be claimed! I thought.

"Yes!" I interrupted.

The other three turned their heads to me in surprise at my sudden outburst. I put my head low in embarrassment and shut up. Alex slowly smiled at turned back to the boys.

"You heard the lady, it's a yes,"

---------

The campfire was a flurry of story telling, singing songs, and playing guitar in front of the warm fire whilst making s'mores. It was interesting to say the least and I enjoyed myself. My heart still felt heavy. I wasn't claimed. I knew I was being impatient, but hope had gotten the better of me.

I walked beside Alex to the Hermes cabin before Nico approached the both of us.

"I'm sorry. Maybe you'll get claimed next time," he sent me a sad smile.

"Thanks, bro," Alex said. Though I could barely hear her over my beating heart. He looked so cute when he smiled.

I nodded in response to him and quickened my pace when he turned away.

I pushed the cabin door open and walked to my bed, pretending as if the small interaction hadn't happened.

"Hmm. What's that I smell? Sexual tension?" Alex sniffed the air.

"Shut up!" I threw my pillow at her in retaliation.

She chuckled and threw the pillow back in my direction.

"Let's just get some sleep," She climbed to the top bunk and began to crawl beneath the covers.

"Agreed," I smiled and did the same. Saying goodbye to my first day at Camp Half-Blood.
