We dance, hit the share button and argue if that dress is black or gold. There are so many Internet phenoms out there, that I just took the most memorable and popular in all platforms.
10. Minecraft
It first started as an indie game and blasted to the mainstream. This game is responsible for the popularity of some gaming youtubers. It spawned parodies, business merchandises and songs. Until now this games is still being played. Left to right, kids and adults can't let their hands off the block building game.
9. #thedress
From tumblr, this simple photo of a dress tore the world apart. The never ending debate whether that dress is black and blue or white and gold took the notice of media. Celebrities even participate the argument. Youtubers took the opportunity to make parodies and Theories, facebook was flooded by comments and twitter went hashtag rant. Woah, that dress is crazy.
8. Harlem Shake
This EDM track took the world by storm. Bauuer was surprised as his track started an Internet Craze. When the song starts, everybody went cray cray. Dancing with costumes and wiggling their hands and hips, it can't be stopped. The Craze went from military to underwater, it even caused the song to chart number one on Billboard for four weeks. Wow.
7. Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)
Everyone loved it and same time hated it. The song about dance steps (stanky legs, whip, bop) rised to the charts and debuts at no. 4 on Billboard. Classifying as a "cancerous" track, it never stopped the Internet to make dance covers and memes. Silento was even mentioned as a young artist on the rise, I doubt that.
6. Friday
Rebecca and her most disliked video on YouTube. Autotune generated with annoying lyrics, it's no surprise friday is hated. The song spawned numerous parodies, rant videos and a conspiracy theory about JFk assassination. Black even come up with a follow up called "Saturday".
5. Double Rainbow
Double Rainbow is a homemade video uploaded by YouTube user Hungrybear9562 in which he declares feelings of awe and wonder after witnessing a rare “double rainbow” in Yosemite National Park. It even had a song that went up on iTunes.
4. Charlie Bit My Finger
A 2007 Internet viral video famous for formerly being the most watched video on YouTube. It's the only non-music video that received 830 million on that day. It even won an award for
Best Motion Video. In their list of YouTube's 50 greatest viral videos, Time ranked "Charlie Bit My Finger" as number one.3. ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
Because of this, we poured ice in our heads for a cause. This challenge was widely enjoyed that people lost the true meaning of it. But otherwise, the challenge raised enough money for research to find a treatment for ALS. Media went in and out of the challenge, as celebrities and citizen pour that cold water on them.
2. Rickroll
Rickrolling is a bait-and-switch prank that involves providing a web link supposedly relevant at hand, but actually re-directs the viewer to Rick Astley’s 1987 hit single “Never Gonna Give You Up.” It was super annoying that we avoid that thing. The reason why this prank went viral?bc we love to see their reactions of course. It spread from Internet to award shows! Woah.
1. Gangnam Style
The biggest trend of all. Received 2 billion views making it the most watched video on YouTube, produced millions of parodies from zombies to minecraft, people dancing, translated into numerous languages and music covers, linked to the end of the world, and merchandises, Gangnam Style is one huge Craze. It bought PSY to the mainstream and the song charted number one on Billboard. He performed it on Award Shows and Concerts. This is phenomenal.
