Jason's Pov

I saw Kayla walk to her locker.

"Kayla." I said.

"What do you want jack in the box bitch?" Kayla snapped glaring at me.

"I'm sorry." I said.

"You're sorry. You just abandoned me!" She snapped.

"Well you implied I was leaving." I snapped back.

"Yeah because I have trust issues. Like every other person would if everyone in there lives left them." Kayla snapped at me.

"Well it didn't look like I was leaving if I was over there tending to your bruises and blood holding you close and stroking your hair." I snapped.

"That doesn't mean shit. That guy over there could do that." Kayla said pointing to a random guy in our grade.

"Well then I guess you don't need me." I said.

"That's not what I said." Kayla said.

"No everything was fine without me where you got beat by your father right? Then I won't help." I said.

"I told you why I let him do that to me and I told you why I though you'd leave." Kayla said.

I turned to look at her.

"I'm not leaving. What do I have to do for you to understand that?" I asked.

Kayla looked at me.

"I'm not leaving Kay. Not until I die." I promised.

A tear left Kayla's eye but I wiped it.

"No more crying either. You're such a beautiful girl and you cry a lot more than a beautiful girl should." I said. I kissed her forehead.

Kayla's Pov

Later that day Jason had basketball practice. It was strange how they had a girls team for every grade in basketball but 12th grade. Then again none of the girls in our grade play.

Basketball was an interesting sport to me. How the ball went in with a swish. Or how it sounded against the court. How the crowd would go wild when someone makes a shot.

I shrugged and walked in to watch.

"Hey." Jason said smiling at me.

"Are you trying out for the team?" One guys asked looking amused. Actually lets make that happen.

"Why not?" I asked smiling.

"Um girls in our grade don't play." He said.

"Oh shut with your sexist ass. Because girls in our grade don't play." I mimicked his deep voice as the team laughed.

"You've never touch a ball." He said rolling his eyes.

"Maybe I haven't. But I can play your sport better than you mr. No defense." I said.

"Damn. Exposed." Another guy said.

"Alright check up. One on one." The guy challenged smirking.

"Wow. Ok." I said a little scared.

"You scared?" He asked smirking.

"Uh yeah. Your 6'1 and I'm like 5'6." I admitted.

"Don't tell him you're scared." One guy said.

We checked up the ball and he was quite a gentle man to let me start with the ball.

I looked at and smiled. Creepy. But who cares? I'm gonna win this game.

I started dribbling the ball.

"No handles." He said chuckling.

"No defense." I said. I crossed him up and I hit a half court which went in with a swish.

"Luck." He said rolling his eyes.

"Luck? You're lucky I haven't punched in your face to knock some sense into you." I said.

He got the rebound and I'm not gonna lie he has some good handles. He took a shot and I I jumped in mid air and caught it hitting a full court which went in.

"Thank you." I said smiling sweetly. He glared at me.

He got the ball and tried to take a shot and I blocked it again.

"Damn he hasn't scored the whole game." Jason said.

The game was over and it was 50-0. Yeah I didn't let him take any shots to prove to him I could play and that he has no defense.

"Damn." Jason said laughing.

The guy glared hard at me.

"Can I be on the team?" I asked.

"No." He said.

"No?! No?! My shooting is on point I have way better defense than you and I have handled for the record. Good with crossovers. What don't I have?!" I yelled.

"I'm the captain and the coach is my dad and I said no. What're you gonna do about it?" He asked getting in my face.

I walked away and out of the corner of my eye I saw him smirk I'm satisfaction. I sat down to watch.

Jason's really good, I thought.

Once it was over I walked out and the guy tripped me and started laughing.

"Whoops." He said.

I got up and he punched me and I just stayed limp. I don't fight people. I know how to fight.

"What the hell are you doing Jake?!" Jason yelled.

"She wants to act big I'm treating her like a guy." He replied.

"Kayla doesn't fight back. No matter no hard you hit her." Jason said running over to me. Jason kissed my forehead.

"Stop babying her." Jake said rolling his eyes.

"I'm not fucking babying her. She's going through a lot right now and you're being a jerk." Jason snapped.

"I said she couldn't play on the team and I'm a jerk." Jake said.

"She plays better than all of us man! The way she played against you was considered man slaughter!" Jason yelled making me smile a bit.

"I don't care! She's a girl! A soft stupid little girl!" Jake yelled.

Jason glared at him before running over to me and kissing my forehead.

He picked me up bridal style.

"Kayla hang in there." Jason said.

He kissed my forehead.

"Jason I can walk." I said.

He put me down.

"Thanks for-" I cut myself when I realized how close we were to each other.

My breathing hitched making him smirk.

He leaned in but I turned my head and got in the car.

What did I just do?
