Prologue.

Once upon a time, in a far away land, there was a tiny kingdom. Peaceful, prosperous, and rich in romance and tradition. Here in a stately chateau, there lived a widowed gentlewoman, and her little daughter Freya. Although she was a kind and caring mom, and gave her daughter every luxury and comfort, and loved her more than anything, the woman were lonely. So she married again. She chose her a man from a good family, with two children just around Freya's age. A boy named Atticus and his sister Alexis.

It was upon the untimely death of Freya's kind mother however that her stepfather Lyman Banner, true nature was revealed. Cold, cruel and bitterly jealous of Freya's charm and beauty. He was grimly determined to forward the interests of his own two awkward children.

Thus, as time went by, the chateau fell into disrepair. For the family fortunes were squandered upon the vain and selfish stepsiblings, while Freya was abused, humiliated and finally forced to become a servant in her own house. And yet through it all Freya remained ever gentle and kind. For with each dawn, she found new hope that someday, her dreams of happiness would become true.
