My head was pounding. I tried to open my eyes, but it was like two heavy weights were sitting on my eyelids. Soon, I gave up, and tried listening, but all I heards was the steady rhythm of a heart monitor.

Heart monitor? Was I in the hospital?

Suddenly, a new sound hit my ears, it sounded like muffled sobs were coming from the side of my bed. I turned my head ever so slightly, and after a lot of effort managed to open my eyes.

Pure, white light poured into my vision. Everything looked like a smear of colors. I saw a figure sat next to my bed. He had light brown hair, and was wearing a black t-shirt. I couldn’t make out who it was until my vision finally came into focus.

He looked like Damon, but this wasn’t the Damon I knew. This Damon had messy hair, it was obvious he had run his fingers through it many times. His normally bright green eyes were watery and pale. Tears were falling down his now ashen face; to put it simply, he was a mess.

“Wh-what happened?” I croaked. My voice was weak and rotten.

“Sk-Skip?!” Damon’s voice trembled. He began to cry into my hand which I had just noticed was intertwined with his.

I let the tears wash my hand, not bothering to interrupt or ask questions. I was still puzzled by what happened, I had no recollection of what happened in the past few hours.

Once Damon finally calmed down, he sat up in the warn out hospital chair. His red eyes met mine, as he looked me over as if he couldn’t believe this was true. I looked away, I probably looked terrible.

However, Damon didn’t allow that. He took my chin, and made me look at him. He pressed a sweet kiss to my lips, and suddenly, I didn’t care about what happened in the past few hours, all I cared about was Damon.

After he pulled away, the blotchiness that decorated Damon’s face seemed to disappear, and was replaced with a blush. A smile spread across his pink lips.

“Move over,” he commanded suddenly. I looked at him confused.

“What? Why?” I asked as I moved over in my thin hospital bed.

“So I can do this,” he got up from the crappy chair he was sitting in, and sat in the space I had made for him. He snaked an arm around my waist, and pulled me close to him.

“Now, you need rest. So lay on my chest, and as soon as you wake up, I’ll explain everything.”

I did as I was told, and laid my head on Damon’s chest. I listened to the soothing beat of his heart, as he played with my hair, twirling the long, red locks in between his fingers. Soon enough, darkness overtook me again, and I was asleep.

“Isn’t she so adorable when she’s sleeping?” I heard a singsong voice fill my ears. My eyes fluttered open to see Damon looking at me with a smile. I sat up, and noticed that my head was no longer pounding.

“Yeah, she is.” A second voice spoke. I looked to see my aunt sitting in the chair that Damon was sitting in previously.

“Cari!” I exclaimed. She smiled brightly.

“Hi Skip.” I tried to get up, but Damon made me stay in bed. I glared at him, and he just stuck his tongue out.

“You two are so childish,” she said with a laugh. “Anyways, I’m going to go get coffee, I believe Damon still has some explaining to do.”
