Alec was late home. Again. He'd lost track of time after a long, hard hunt against a hoard of Drevak demons. He quietly opened the door of his and Magnus's apartment and shut it behind him. Magnus wasn't anywhere in sight so he was probably in the bedroom.

With a quick sigh, Alec slid off his jacket and hung it up, followed by taking his boots off. He'd showered at the Institute so he was safe to change right away.

Before entering the bedroom, Alec slid off his shirt and he felt his muscles relax. With one quick flex of his neck, he opened the bedroom door to a rare sight. It was Magnus, yes, but something was wrong. Something was very, very wrong.

He was sprawled out across the bed sheets that were twisted around him, like he'd been restlessly moving. He was panting also, his head twitching and his lips were moving, soundlessly saying something that Alec couldn't depict. As Alec moved closer to the bed, he also noticed that a thin sheen of sweat lay across Magnus's normally flawless skin.

"Magnus?" Alec mumbled, reaching forward and brushing his hair off of his forehead. In a strange, swift movement, Magnus's own hand had reached up and gripped Alec's neck. Not tightly, just enough to be uncomfortably. His eyes were still closed. Alec moved his hands to Magnus's shoulders and shook him. "Magnus. Magnus wake up." Alec spoke, a little louder than before.

The only response was Magnus tightening his grip. Alec was starting to struggle to breath. He shook Magnus more violently. "Magnus! Magnus wake up!" he cried. Magnus let out a violent cry and he shot up, slamming Alec backwards into the bed, properly choking him. "Magnus! Stop! It's Alec!" Alec choked out, scratching Magnus's hand in an attempt to be able to breathe.

On the yell of Alec's name, Magnus's hand instantly repented. Alec's back arched and he rolled onto his side, coughing heavily. "A... Alexander?" Magnus stammered quietly.

"Magnus." Alec coughed. Once he'd regained his breath, Alec pushed himself into a sitting position so see Magnus looking at him with fear in his eyes. The same beautiful cat eyes that had tears endlessly pouring out of them. Alec immediately lunged forward and pulled Magnus into a hug. "Hey. Hey. It's alright. I'm alright. You're alright." Alec cooed as he gently rocked them backwards and forwards, stroking Magnus's hair.

"I'm so sorry! I'm so so sorry!" Magnus sobbed into Alec's shoulder.

"It's alright Magnus. Don't apologise. I'm fine." Alec tried. After about ten minutes, Magnus finally called down to a few sniffles. "Why don't you try to go back to sleep. I'm here this time." Alec suggested. Magnus slowly nodded before raising his head to look into Alec's eyes. Alec smiled encouragingly. Magnus lay back against the pillow and Alec lay down beside him, situating himself in the crook of Magnus's neck. Magnus wrapped his arms solidly around his Nephilim, burying his face in Alec's hair. Alec closed his eyes and snuggled closer. He'd ask Magnus about it in the morning.

The next morning, Alec woke up alone. He stretched and slipped out of bed. He grabbed the first shirt that he could grab, which he'd later find out wasn't his own, and put it on. He shuffled out of the room into the main room where curled upon the couch was Magnus. Alec approached cautiously. "Magnus?" Alec tried.

Magnus jumped at Alec's voice before he softened his expression. "Morning darling."

Alec settled down beside him. "Are you alright this morning?" Alec asked, placing his hand on Magnus's knee.

"More or less." Magnus smiled sadly.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Alec suggested. Magnus sighed and looked down. "I mean... You don't have to... Only if you want to... I'm not... I'm not forcing you to do anything you-"

"I had a nightmare of the time my dad tried to drown me." Magnus interrupted. Alec shut his mouth quickly. Instead of using words, Alec gently rubbed his thumb across Magnus's knee in encouragement. Magnus inhaled sharply and began to tell his story.

"Mother? Mother where are you? Father said you'd be out here." little Magnus Bane called out. "Mother? Are you in the barn?"

Magnus opened the large barn doors and let out an ear shattering scream. There was his mother alright. Hanging from the ceiling, a rope suspending her in mid-air. Magnus dashed around to the back of the barn and up the steps to the upper part. He reached out and grabbed his mother's arm and pulled her in, letting her drop to the floor. Magnus quickly felt for a pulse and upon finding nothing, screamed again.

He fled. Running out of the barn and down to the stream where he knelt down, looking at his reflection. This was his fault. He was a freak. A cat-eyed, magic casting freak. He had caused his mother to die. Him. All him.

Magnus felt a hand grip his hair and pull his head backward. "IT'S YOUR FAULT!" his step-father hollered in his ear. He thrust little Magnus forward, shoving his face into the water.

Magnus couldn't breathe. He failed and screamed but to no avail. His father held fast. Magnus felt something strange, new, bubble from inside him up his veins and into his arms, out of his hands. Suddenly, there was no longer a weight holding him down. Magnus threw his head back, flipping his hair in the process, taking deep gulps of and sicking up whatever water he had swallowed.

Once it was all over, Magnus turned to look at where his father had been. Well, still was. But, there was something wrong. Something very, very wrong. Magnus crawled over to him, still panting. "F... Father?" he stammered. No response. Magnus reached out and checked for a pulse. That was the second time that day he had sought and found not a single beat.

Magnus fell backward, crying out. He did this. His fault. He scrambled to his feet and ran. Ran faster and further than he ever had before.

By the time Magnus was finished, he was crying and shaking. Alec hushed him gently and pulled the older into a side hug where Magnus placed his head on Alec's shoulder.

Once calm, he moved his head but spotted around about four bruises situated on Alec's neck. He reached up and brushed over them, causing Alec to flinch. Magnus drew back in disgust. "I did that." he pointed out.

"Magnus, it's fine. Don't put yourself down. It's perfectly fine. I promise you." Alec tried. Magnus shook his head.

"No. No it's not fine, Alexander! I could've killed you!"

"But you didn't and that is the point. You didn't kill me. You heard me and because of that, you recognised my voice, I know that I feel safe around you knowing you won't hurt me."

"But I did!"

"Because you had a nightmare, Magnus! Believe me, I've done it. I nearly stabbed Jace with a Seraph Blade that was by my bed because he woke me from a nightmare. That was one hell of a story to explain to the Clave. My mother heard Jace scream out and saw me holding a blade to him whilst he was looking very frightened."

"Before or after you became Parabatai?"

"After. Which it was made it even harder to explain to the Clave. The point is, Magnus, that we all make mistakes and I forgive you. I'm fine. It's nothing an Iratze can't heal. I just didn't know it had bruised until just now."

Magnus dwelled on the thought. "Are you sure?"

"Yes, Magnus. I promise you. I'm fine." Alec raised his hand and placed it on Magnus's cheek. Magnus smiled and leaned into Alec's hand. "I forgive you."
