Insecurities (AU)

A/N: So, I'm back. Been a while, I know. Anyway, this story is an AU which I used in my Halloween chapter in which the Shadowhunters have wings. We have some Malec above along with Romantic Flight piano from How To Train Your Dragon.

Alec hated how different his wings were. They were so wrong in every sense of the word meaning he never actually had them out unless he was alone to stretch them and clean them. Not even Jace had seen them. All that changed though when Alec had them out at one point in his room and Jace unceremoniously barged in.

"Alec, I-"

"Jace!" Alec squawked, turning to face his Parabatai in an attempt to hide them before he could put them away properly.

"No!" Jace cried out as he saw Alec's plan. "Don't put them away. Let me see."

Alec shook his head violently and hid them from the world. Jace sighed and watched as Alec sat on his bed. "I see now."

"You didn't see anything," Alec growled.

"No, I did. I see why you hide yours. The colour-"

"You are treading on thin ice, Jonathan."

Jace knew then he'd stepped over the line by a mile when Alec used his full name. "Right. Sorry." Jace mumbled, running a hand over his face. "Does Magnus know?"

"No. You're the only one in New York that has seen them."

"In New York?"

"When I was a kid living in Idris, I once took my wings out to show my class and everyone laughed at me and called them demonic. I've never gotten them out since."

"Just because of some kids from years ago?"

"It still knocks your confidence. I'm not like you, Jace. I don't have perfect Angel wings like you. My wings are different. Wrong. So very wrong. I hate them."

The room fell into silence at that until Jace's face shifted into a playful smile and he laughed lightly.

"What? What is it?" Alec demanded.

"I bet my wingspan is larger than yours," Jace smirked.

"Excuse me? Did you see mine?"

"I think mine is still larger."

Alec paused knowing exactly what Jace was trying to get him to do. Jace even emphasized what he was saying by extending his wings out fully. It was then that Alec's need to prove Jace wrong took over his pride and he let out a sigh.

"I hate you. You know that, don't you?"

"Oh, I really do."

Alec stood and allowed his wings to show. He extended them fully and they were at least double Jace's length.

"They did not look that long when they were relaxed."

Alec shrugged and put them away again. "Thank you for trusting me."

Alec let out a small laugh. "I can always trust you, Jace."

"I'm crap at any kind of mushy stuff so maybe you could go speak to Magnus about them. Show him. Maybe he could help you through it." Jace suggested.

"I'm seeing him later so I'll have to see."

"He's helped you in the past. Maybe he can help you again this time."

"Yeah. Maybe. Anyway, why'd you come in here in the first place?"

"Oh, right. So, there's some Demon activity..."
