I took a seat in front of the stage, just so we could see each other. John stared at me the whole time. Always smiling. George winked at me a few times when I caught his gaze. Paul was just pretending to have fun because he was not in the best mood. I don't know why though. I hope he'll tell me some day.
After the show, I stood up and went to wait for John to come out from backstage. I heard the door open. I hoped it would be John, and for my happiness, it was. I eagerly jumped on him so I could give him a hug with all my might. "You were amazing, as always."
"Thanks, love. You know I always try my best." He gave me a peck on the lips. I felt that I blushed beet red. "So, you wanna go pick a table and have a couple of drinks with the rest of the lads?" I thought about what he said. I knew that I was only sixteen, which meant that I couldn't have a drink or two with the group. But I'm sure it wouldn't hurt if I tried just one, would it?
"Umm...Okay, but only one. I don't want to come home drunk because then Mum will kill the both of us for it." John chuckled a bit, putting his arm around my waist.
"Don't worry, darling. I'll keep ya under control." He winked. I smiled back at him, with a thought deep in mind if I won't be the one keeping him under control. As we were heading to the bar, I noticed the boys sitting at a table with a glass of drinks in their hands. George was the first to notice me, smiling. He was followed by Paul, who just looked at me with those hurt eyes of his. George stood up and called me. "Hey Anna! Why don't you two love birds come sit over here and have a drink with us? I'm sure it won't hurt if you had just one." Oh George. He's the same age as me, but it always seemed like he was older than me. He was taller, smarter, better-looking and all that.
"Okay George, we're making our way there now..."
Once we made it to the table, we sat down. Not too much later, a waiter came and asked us if we wanted anything to drink. "Um..I'll have a beer." John turned to me and asked what I wanted. "I guess I'll have the same." The boys turned to me with funny looks on their faces. "What?" I saw George chuckle a little, almost turning into a laugh. "Oh it's nothing. It's just that birds don't usually drink beer." After he said that, the whole group bursted out laughing, while I was blushing fire red. I could even tell that Paul broke a giggle, too. "And what's wrong with girls drinking beer?" John decided to speak up. "Just leave it. Don't let them bother you love. Ya can that beer if you want it." I rolled my eyes at all this drama that one fucking beer just caused. A while later, the waiter came with our beers. The whole night passed, talking, drinking and laughing. I could say that this was the best night of my life.I was being careful of how many glasses of alcohol I drank. I noticed that the rest of them had found a bird to sit next to, but John- he always stayed by my side. He seemed miserable though. We had a few dances on the dance floor, but he still seems so....bored. "Johnny?" I carefully asked him. "Yeah?" He groggled, half drunk. "Are you okay? Because you seem kind of blue at such a fun event." "Uh.. No, no. I'm...f-fine." "Oh okay, then. I'm gonna go get som fresh air from outside. I'll be back in a flash." I didn't really hear him answer back, probably because he was too drunk to even know that I was talking.
I slowly made my way up the stairs from the Cavern, and opened the door that revealed the beautiful atmosphere of Liverpool at night. I took a deep breath, taking in the mesmerizing place. "I can tell you like early mornings. I like them, too, 'ya know." I jumped a little when I heard someone say that. "D-do I know you?" I asked, quite frightened. "Well, of course you've seen me, but I don't think we've really got the time to properly get to know each other yet." "Um...okay. Can you come closer so I can see who you really are?" The person stepped closer, my heart beating with every step, thoughts racing through my mind who it could possibly be. Then I saw him. "Paul?!" He smiled. I gave him a punch in the shoulder, where he just chuckled. "Why did you scare me like that??" He shrugged his shoulders, " I don't know, I was just standing here alone for about fifteen minutes, and then you came. I wanted to surprise you." I laughed at the thought of how funny I should of looked. "Well, you did surprise me alright." There was an awkward silence for a while until I spoke, "Paul?" "Yes, love?" "Why were you so 'down' the whole night? I mean, is there something I did to you?" He just sighed, knowing that he had to tell me somehow. "No, there's nothing that you did. It's just a silly little reason, is all." "Paul...please tell me. I want to help you. But in order to help you, you have to tell me what's bothering you." I brushed my hand over his cheek. He took my hand into his and closed his eyes. "Anna..." He sighed, "I-I'm going to be really embarrassed telling you this, but.. I-I think I'm in love with you." I was struck by those few words.
He's in love with me.
"Paul. B-but why? Why do act so..sad? So upset? What's the reason? Please tell me.." A tear forced to fall, knowing that I was the reason Paul's been acting like this. "I-I guess I'm just jealous of John." His calm voice in such a situation soothed me. He was always calm, with such polite ways. "Why would you be jealous of John? I mean, I'm nothing special, really. Just an ordinary person." "Anna, you might be an ordinary person, but to me, you're the most beautiful bird I've ever seen. I want to make you mine." Our lips were inches away from each other, but I couldn't do that to John. He wouldn't forgive me. "P-Paul, I can't. Not now. I'm with John, and I can't go around kissing other men." He seemed quite hurt by the words that just came out of my mouth. "Oh okay. But just remember, if John hurts you or does anything to you, I'll always be here, waiting for you."
