"Dad h- how  come you're awake at this hour?" My eyes focusing on anything other than him.

"I could ask you the same young lady" He stands from his place on the sofa slowly making his way towards me.

"So would you care to explain?" He pushes, I feel Jesse's presence close behind me before he speaks up.

"Well you know how we've been fixing my car" Dad simply nods wanting to know the story.

"Well we got it up and running yesterday and I was going for a drive because of stress and all that and it stopped a few miles down the road so- um Aves came down to help me" He takes a step closer to Jesse. They continue hold eye contact for a few minutes. Jesse knows if he breaks it, dad won't believe him. Dads eyes narrow before he steps back.

"Alright, I'll let you off this time but if I find out that isn't the reason you were out, you'll both be in a lot of trouble. Understood?" We both nod.

"Now go to bed"

"Uh- Scott I think I'll just go- um home"

"But you don't have a car?" Crap!

"I- I was just going to get Avery to drop me."

"Avery isn't leaving this house again tonight, so it looks like you'll be staying here tonight. I'll let your mother know" With that we're both entering my room silence lacing the air between us. I push Jess into the room shutting the door behind us.

"I can't lie to him anymore Jess, that was too close. If he finds out he'll be furious" collapsing into my bed.

"How much do you have so far?" He walks to my closet pulling the jar from behind a box at the top. Counting the money he looks up to me scared.

"Where'd all the money go?" He asks before I run to him snatching the jar from his grasp. He's right. There's no money in this jar. I had at least 70 grand saved up it can't just disappear.

"Dad" I speak, Jesse's face full of anger but no where near as much as mine.

"Dad! How could you?!" I scream sprinting to his room. Jess close behind.

"What are you on about now? I told you to go to your room-" he begins before I interrupt.

"Where is my money?!" I yell again

"What money? A girl who doesn't work should have money" he states.

"Well this girl does!" I yell pointing at myself

"Have you been racing?!" He shouts back stepping into my face as he does. I feel Jesse's grasp suddenly on my waist pulling me back from my dad. He's worried.

"Yes you know what! I have!" I spit

"Avery! That was the one thing I told you, that you were not allowed to do!" His hand gestures flying everywhere.

"I needed money and that's that one thing I know I will always get money from!" I feel water circling my eyes. I'm not going to cry.

"Why do you need money?!"

"I want to fix mums car! I want her to still be with me" my voice softens by the end of my sentence

"She's gone Avery! She isn't going to come back, I'm sorry sweetheart but that's the truth!" he yells, I begin to sprint out the house leaving the door open behind me.

Running down the street as fast as my legs can carry me. Soon enough a pair of arms around my waist bring me to a stop. Pulling me into there chest. I know who it is, without having to look up. I just want to go to bed.
