If you still carry her bags, open the door for her, tell her that she's beautiful, and show her respect you're a real man. - Drake
Chapter 27 - A Little More in Love
Edward's POV:
Helen is in full wedding planner mode by the time I got Addyson home this morning. It took less than a day for her to buy four bridal magazines and tab all of her favorites. She has chosen Addyson's colors, her dress, the cake, the flowers, and the place, thank goodness the groom had already been selected or she would have done that, also.
"She's going to be hard to live with." I tell Addyson as if she didn't already know.
"You're going to have to give her a job, or we will all go crazy," Joel says.
"How about we pick a date first, and then worry about the rest of this." Helen takes that as her cue to bring over her iPad and open the calendar. Addyson laces her fingers in mine, and lets me know she loves me. Getting engaged is a bigger deal than I realized. Helen is scaring me; I'm not ready to help plan a wedding. I would be happy if someone told me where to be and what time to be there. By the 'deer in the headlights' look Addyson has, she's not ready to plan either.
I tell her I would be happy if we were married over Thanksgiving break, which is only two weeks away. Helen scoffs. I also offer Christmas as an alternative only half joking, and Addyson gives me October 20th as an option, which is almost a year away. "No, I'll give you until May, but I don't want to wait past that." There was no humor in my face or voice, and there is no way I'm ok with a long engagement. Joel gave Addyson a sympathetic look that told her he was here for her if she needs him.
After more than an hour of Helen, Addyson turns to me and asks if we can just elope. I say yes, and Helen looks like she's about to have a seizure.
Addyson may not completely understand my hurry, but she does agree that we don't have to wait until May. By the end of the day we had made only a few decision, but they were the most important ones...date and place. Well, date for sure -- place was narrowed down to three.
She tells me that making these decisions are going to be daunting. I can already tell that this is going to be overwhelming for her. Helen was on the phone to our moms before we could rethink our decisions we've made, and she had them to agree to take over the wedding plans with her. She was going to find out which one of our places would be available, and then we would go from there.
Helen opens her notepad app and began typing lists of things to accomplish along with timelines. First, secure a place. "Small or large?" Helen asks.
Considering the places we chose, Addyson and I look at each other and without a discussion we both say small. It won't be tiny, but we are going to try and limit the amount of guests. Her number one choice of locations can only seat about 80 people. For her family, that's small.
Within the week, we had the date, the place, the photographer, and the 'save the date' cards ordered. Helen, Emily and Mom are taking Addyson wedding dress shopping after finals are over. Maybe this won't be as awful as I first thought.
Addy's POV:
Sitting in first class, Edward reaches over and kisses me softly. The tickle of his new beard and moustache makes me smile.
It's No-Shave November, and Edward gave money to charity to be able to sport a beard for a few weeks at work. He keeps it trimmed to look like a three-day growth, but he says he'll have to shave before his grandmother sees him, or he will never hear the end of it. Until then, it's my new toy, and I like to play.
