Ara.

"Pao please, yung kaibigan ko tumawag and hindi ko alam pero kinakabahan ako, pwede ba nating matrack ang cellphone niya?"

Paolo: "Oh sige sige. Saglit lang Ars titingnan ko muna sa software."

Bang: "I'll call on my friends from the cellular sites too. Baka they could help. God, Ars. Paano niya ba sinabi na magpapaalam siya?

"He said it plainly, Bang. No anger, no fear not even a pang of hurt, kaya nga mas lalo akong kinabahan, his voice sounded like it was from someone who just gave up on life. "

Paolo: "Ars, it was Thomas right? From what I know wala naman siyang suicidal tendencies, di he ever open up to you about that?"

"Yun nga ang problema eh, we never talked about death--ever. He seemed so alive last I saw of him, that was a month ago I think?"

Bang: "What a coincidence! Diba its exactly a month since you met Paolo and eventually clicked, wala ba siyang hidden feelings sayo or what?" we both looked at her "What? Just stating the possibilities guys. Sheesh. Ang aarte niyong dalawa para namang nangththreaten yung tao sa inyo."

Yup, it was a month ago before Bang introduced me to Paolo Javelona. They were in the same circle of friends pala and that they both knew each other dahil sa pagkahilig sa Music Festivals, Forever Summer, Hydro, Jacko Wacko and Unleashed, you name it, they've both been there.

Paolo: "Ars! Can I borrow your phone? Icoconnect ko lang yung last call niya."

I handed him the phone. Compared to Thom, Paolo was easier to be with, I didn't need to pretend to be another person to be likeable, he has this dragging force that helps you to be at ease pag kasama mo siya.

Bang: "Why are you looking at Paolo like that? Honestly Ars its creepy."

"Wh-what? Paano ko ba siya tiningnan?"

Bang: "You just stared at him and started smiling from ear to ear. Ew. Kung ganito lang naman pala mainlove count me out!"

Paolo: "Lay off her Pineda!" he turned to me. "Ars no matter how I tried wala talaga eh. May blockage ng signals as if sinira yung buong unit, I don't know how could that be possible since the detection was only minutes apart since the call he made. Baka naman may foul play na, Ars? Lets go to the police after 24 hours."

"24 hours?! A lot could happen in that time frame. Paano kung may frame up, may kidnapping, homicide or whatever? We. Need. To. Find. Him. Now."

Bang: "Baka naman you didn't try harder, Pao. Maybe because you don't actually want to find your love's first love?" Paolo glared at her. "Pero siyempre joke lang yon. Paolo is the best technician here. I called Globe too, kailangan daw ng letter from someone with a high position to be granted access to their portal. Mga punyeta."

Saan ka ba kase nagpupunta, Thom?! You are driving me mad. I didn't have a contact with his parents, si Jeron naman for sure nag cacatchup kasama si Mika, hindi naman ako masyadong friendly sa ibang Green Archers (This sucks) the only mutual friend I have left is Kim, and she left for Batangas yesterday. I am running of options.

Bang: "Oh ayan okay na!" Napatingin naman kami ni Paolo sa kanya. "Voila! 500 copies ng flier about Missing Thom!"

"Maasahan ka talaga kahit kelan Bang!"

Bang: "I know! So let's go na! Paolo will be our driver, first we'll scout in the nearby streets of Taft. In separate ways para mas maraming ma cover, Okay?"

Paolo: "What? Alam mo naman kung gaano ka delikado dito diba? Why would I let Ara go alone?"

Bang: "Psh. Ang clingy kay Ara di pa nga boyfriend." pero binawi niya naman agad. "Just kidding. So to fulfill Shakespeare's mantra on love, you'll go together and I'll go alone. Would that be okay na? Sheesh. Just drive old man!"

I would almost laugh at the two of them if we weren't in this situation. They had been having the platonic friendship eversince, somewhat like Thom and I, minus the feelings. I somehow idolize Bang kase kahit gaano ka likeable si Paolo, she didn't let herself be fond of him, she supressed all her feelings, because kailangan nilang pahalagahan ang friendship.

I was starting to think about morbid thoughts dahil na rin nga sa tono ng pamamaalam ni Thom. I was surpised. It was the first time he sounded nonchalant. As if he felt that much pain that it numb him.

We stopped sa may hospital sa tapat ng Taft and Bang went to the other side.

Bang: "Text to reach. Don't wander off you two, remember our goal."

We started walking along the streets, maraming babaeng nanlilimos, mga mama na nagbebenta ng kung ano anong anek anek, at may mga bata na nagbebenta ng sampaguita.

Nabigla naman kami nung may nagsitakbuhan mga medic lampas sa amin papunta sa isang tulay sa di kalayuan.

"Pao..."

My heart was beating at an unusual speed. Kinakakabahan na ako. I was starting to sweat badly when I felt his hand unto mine.

Paolo: "We'll do everything to save your friend, Ars."

And we walked together. Maraming nagkukumpulang mga tao sa tapat ng tulay.

"Grabe ang dinanas ng katawan ng bata, mare no?"
"Oo nga eh, natatalim rin kase ang mga bato sa ilog na to kaya nga wala na rin masyadong naliligo sa takot na madulas."
"Eh diba nga nung isang taon lang may nadulas dito na nabagok at agaran ding namatay? Paano pa kaya ang binatilyong ito?"

Thom please... Sana hindi ikaw to Thom..

"May ID ba ang biktima, officer?"
"Wala pa naman pong nakukuha ang unang rumesponde. Mga preskang sampaguita lang ang nakita sa kanya dahil hawak hawak niya ito."

"I got a very faint pulse! Patient needs immediate hospital care proceed to revival upon arriving."

"Maawa po kayo tulungan niyo po si kuya si kuya sakit po siya tulong po siya ate!"

Agaw pansin ang isang batang nagbebenta ng sampaguita sa tabi ng medics..teka sampaguita.

"Bata kilala mo ba ang biktima?"

"O..po ate bili siya sakin kanina ng sampaguita. Sakit ate! May sakit si kuya!"

Paolo: "Ano bang itsura ni Kuya mo bata?"

"Puti po at singkit ate tulong ka kuya may sakit siya!" at tuluyan ng umiyak ang bata. "Ate may sakit kuya!"

Hindi ko na napigilan pang umiyak. Lumalakas na ang kabog ng dibdib ko sa kaisipan na maaring ang kaibigan ko nga ang lulan ng ambulansya.

"Sir! May natagpuan na pong ID ang mga medic, estudyante pala sa La Salle sir, Thomas Christopher B. Torres."
