Charles's POV

I sat in the cabin at the edge of my family's vacation estate with James, my best friend since I can remember. It was nothing fancy, so I hoped it had been forgotten about. My phone rang, showing that my mother was calling. I let out a loud groan before answering the call in order to stop my annoying ringtone. I really needed to change it from the regular beeping.

"Hello?" I said, waiting for my mother's angry reaction.

"Charles," my mother began calmly, "are you trying to escalate this war?" To say I was shocked was the least someone could say to express my feelings in that moment. I glanced at James to see he was listening in intently.

I rolled my eyes at him, replying into the cellphone, "Of course not. I care about this country just as much as father and you do, but I don't care enough to throw my life away and become a slave for said country." That, my ladies and gentlemen, was when my mother lost it.

"CHARLES! GET YOURSELF OVER HERE THIS INSTANT BEFORE I COME TO THE CABIN AND DRAG YOU OUT IF THERE BY YOUR EAR!" My mother screamed at me, causing me to wonder if the "guests" heard her. I heard laughter and turned to see James doubled over with his hands on his knees. I could hear the threat in my mother's voice when she said, "James, do not think you are excluded from being dragged out as well. I have two hands." That caused James to shut up. Before I could utter another word, my mother ordered, "There is a car outside the cabin waiting for you. Get in and do not take any detours." With those finally words she ended the call. I smirked as I came up with a brilliant plan.

James's POV

"What is going through that brain of yours?" I asked Charles who obviously was about to play with fire.

"Well, my dear best friend, I shall be going to the club where I went the other night for another round of those amazing red drinks. You will be the one going back to the main house on the property. Have fun and tell me all about it tomorrow when I'm sober!" Charles stated before running into the garage, taking one of his more flashy cars, and leaving me there with my mouth hanging open. I snapped it shut when I saw a fly was about to go into it. I grumbled all the way to the limousine waiting for me.

I hopped into the back of it; then rapped on the partition giving the passengers in the car privacy from the driver. I felt the limo start to move. Deciding on what to say to Charles's parents was hard to say the least. My thoughts them wandered to the half-peacock princess. How would she take it? I let out a light laugh. This should be interesting.

Still James's POV
I am now eating this delicious dinner that Charles is missing out on. There is also a feast for the eyes here. The princess is quite beautiful with her jet black hair and bright blue eyes. She also has tinted pink cheeks and ruby red, irresistible lips. Charles would change his mind about marrying her in a heartbeat if he laid his eyes on her, but maybe I could work this in my favor. I then began working on my master scheme.
