Chapter 17
Amy
I wanted to die. I really did. I was one minute away from finding a gun to shoot myself. I didn't want to live anymore. My life was ruined...again. I thought when my parents died my life went to hell but finding out that twilight was real, was a new definition to the words screwed up.
And Liv was just as bad as the rest of them. She loved one of them for Christ sake. God, she told me how she found out too. They were walking in the forest when a wolf called a rogue attacked them. Or threaten to – it doesn't matter. Either way Callum turned wolf in front of her and she ran. She said that she was just as a mess as I was but I bet she was just saying that to make me feel better. I was a new definition to the word mess. Anyway, she warmed to the idea. In fact, she fell in love with the idea. He's using her for his own sick needs. I've read books okay, I know. A mate to a wolf was like some sort of fulfilment. Through sex, I think. So basically he was probably using her for her body and his creepy wolfy sex drive. And I'll be damned if I'll end up like that.
I groaned, feeling now wide awake. My anger worked better then coffee to get me out of bed. I stumbled for my balance, wincing when my neck throbbed.
"Damn," I muttered, cupping my hand over the patch and applied pressure to make it stop, "I'm going to kill every single damn person in this bloody house."
I struggled to get dress with no movement from my neck. It wasn't easy. That's why I was now cooking up a plan to burn the whole place down. My eyes landed on the clock and groaned when I realized that I had missed breakfast. Well, I better get this over and done with.
I knew I could find Callum in the library. I didn't think that I would find Liv and the twins in the library as well.
When I spotted their pitiful eyes looking at me, I groaned.
"No," I said shaking my hands, "I'm done. I can't do this."
Just as I went to turn around, Callum stopped me, "No, please Amy, just listen."
I bit my lip trying not to say something that I would regret. When I turned around again, Callum was standing behind his desk with Liv right next to him. Yeah, not even my teeth could stop me now.
"Why, so you can try and convince that your not using my sister?" I challenged crossing my arms.
"Amy, I told you –."
"Liv, its fine. She's just confused," He told her before she could finish, "Amy, whatever you think, our relationship is based on love and affection."
I rolled my eyes and scoffed. That was such a line.
"Yeah right. Who are you trying to convince, me or yourself?" I asked.
"Why are you so against the idea?" he asked.
I frowned at his different approach to Liv's. She was ready to strangle me and I was happy to see her try.
But I didn't know the answer to his question. I crossed my arms over my chest and bowed my head, trying to avoid their stares.
"I wanted to explain things to you," he finally said moving to a different subject.
I looked at Graham and Allie who sat looking at me from the lounge.
"What about them?" I asked pointing to the peanut gallery.
"Amy, if I knew a way to get rid of them, they wouldn't have been born," he reassured me.
"Hey!" they said unison, making a small smile appear on my face.
"Come on guys. We all know you're an accident," he told them.
"She's the accident," Graham yelled, pointing at Allie who was throwing draggers with her eyes.
"That joke is old," she told him, "twenty-two years old."
He scoffed and shook her off.
"Anyway," Callum started, turning my attention back to him, "like I said, I wanted to explain things. Startin' with the general stuff."
My eyes narrowed at him, as he sat down.
"Do you have any questions?"
I knew he was trying to be nice and all but I couldn't shake the feeling that I was now a five year old and he was my teacher.
I shrugged, "Do you guys turn into wolves?"
He nodded.
"Like full moon?"
"No, we can control our shifts. The moon has nothin' to do with it."
I nodded. Okay, like twilight.
"What about shiver bullets?"
"Bullets can kill me if I don't heal fast enough. But shiver itself doesn't affect us."
Damn, there goes my plan of stabbing them with a shiver knife.
"So, you guys aren't immortal?"
He shook his head, "No, we can die from old age."
"But the normal age of death for a werewolf is a lot older than your average human," Graham added.
"Thank you, Graham," Callum said with an emphasis on each word.
Graham just shrugged him off like he didn't care.
"What about last night?" I asked, "Who was the girl?"
At the mention of the girl, Callum's face changed. His eyes dropped and his jaw tightened and he looked as if he was trying to control his anger.
"She was a vampire. I have no idea how she got into the house, she must have been wearin' a cloakin' herb."
My eyes widen as I looked at him as if he was stupid.
"A cloaking herb?"
He nodded, "Aye, certain herbs can cloak your smell so that other creatures can't tell that you're a supernatural creature."
I dropped my head back as I tried to get the thought through my head. He did not just say that.
"Amy, I know how ridiculous this sounds but –."
"Stop, Liv. Just stop," I told her.
I was still pissed about last night. My sister was seriously going to drop me for something like him.
I sighed, trying not to get caught up in that. I needed more answers about mates.
"Okay, mates. I want to know about mates."
He nodded. I guess he knew that I would get to the topic eventually.
"As you've guessed, Liv is my mate. And yes, her bein' my mate was what drew me to her but I do love your sister, more than anythin'."
He looked up into Liv's eyes and I saw, for a second, his pale blue eyes turn gold. Maybe they did love each other. My head shot to the peanut gallery when haves echoed from Graham's mouth making Allie giggle.
"Anyway," Callum said strongly, shutting them up, "We can –."
"Callum, I need to –," I turned around and froze when I spotted Archie halfway through the doorway. His eyes were wide with shock, making my whole body harden. I bet he was excepting me to do the same thing as Liv did. Bow down to him.
"Hey, Princess," he said stepping into the room.
Anger boiled up inside of me and there was only one way to get it out. I paced over to the first bookshelf and took the first book I saw and started throwing it at my target.
"Ow, hey!" he yelled, but I kept throwing.
Laughter sounded from the audience but I didn't care.
"Stop it!" he yelled, getting more frustrated.
Good.
"Are you lot goin' to help?" he asked them.
"Nope," Callum said through his chuckles.
"You bastard!" I yelled between each book, "You think I'm yours don't you!"
"Princess, no!" he shouted, making me stop for a second, "just let me explain."
"Oh you had your chance. When you snapped the girl's neck!"
"Hey, that bitch had it comin'! You should at least say thank you for savin' your life."
"Oh you would have done it anyway. Because I'm your frickin mate!" I yelled starting throwing books again.
"Enough!" he roared once I through my fifth book at him.
I was kind of happy. I was out of breath anyway.
"I'm so glad your takin' this so well. I hoped we could have a calm discussion about this," he stated, out of breath as well.
He could still be a smartass even at the best of times.
"I'm sorry, did you seriously think that I would take this well?" I asked, "You're expecting me to fulfil your needs. You're expecting –."
"Amy, if I expected that I would have jumped your bones and marked you the day I met you."
My mouth dropped and my eyes widened at his crudeness. I wasn't a prude but somethings I couldn't take. More books.
"Amy!" he yelled.
"I will kill you!" I screamed.
"Stop! Stop! Stop!" he yelled again, catching my last three books as he got closer to me.
I felt on the verge of tears again when his eyes looked down on me with such compassion that I had never seen before. Fear filled my like it did yesterday at the thought of someone loving me as much as Callum did Liv. I don't think I could ever have that happen.
"Princess, please –," he stopped and bent over.
I frowned when he picked up a dictionary that I had thrown at him. My confusion grew as he flicked through the pages till her handed me the book and pointed at mate. I was going to kill him.
"Mate," I growled through my teeth, "a very close friend. Acquaintance or fellow worker. A form of address to another man, implying equality and goodwill. Form of address plying irony or even hostility. Each of a breeding pair. Partner in marriage. Fellow member or joint occupant of. Officer on a ship. Assistant to a skilled worker. Come of bring together for breeding. Join or be joined in marriage. Associated with as a friend."
He nodded, looking proud of himself, "Now, whenever you want? You tell me what part of the definition you are."
I narrowed my eyes at him, questioning his motives.
"Well, right now, I'm a form of address plying irony or even hostility," I told him making him smile for some reason.
"I would have gone officer on a ship," Allie commented.
"Sames," Graham agreed with a grin.
"Archie!"
I frowned when Malcolm's voice echoed through the halls before he burst through the second library doors.
"Malcolm, what's wrong?" Callum asked, standing at his desk.
Malcolm looked between Callum, Archie and me, trying to find his words.
"Someone is askin' after you," he said to Archie, with a secret meaning behind every single syllable.
I looked up to Archie's hardening face.
"Where?" he growled.
"Where we keep all our unwelcomed guests, remember?" he stated making me frown.
Without another word, Archie paced towards the library door.
Without even realising, I took a step to follow him.
"Amy," I halted at Malcolm's voice and turned towards where he stood by the other door.
"You don't want to follow him. Trust me."
