I glared at a cockroach that crawled along the base of a wall across the room. I chased it out twice before, but now it's back. I don't care about how many cats eat those things, I refuse to even touch it.
I sighed and turned back to the keys in front of me. Of what I gotten so far, one belong to a mail box and one to a door of a house, these were the brownish keys. The silver and blue were the hardest of them all to read.
The silver key had some long word that was slightly faded out and the blue key was exactly the same.
I huffed at my dismay and sat on the dusty wooden floor with a small rise of dust. I followed a few stands and targeted them with my left paw.
A slight noise sounded from out the door. It started off small at first, but then it started to move faster and faster. It sounded like steps and they grew louder as time passed.
Typically I would ignore these noises, but the other cat, that I was with, had left and choose another abandoned house to stay in. Not to say that this one was bad, but the other apparently had better upkeep.
I shot up as the foot steps got dangerously loud. I readied myself for any brawl that was coming for me. I grabbed the keys and hid them behined an old box in the very corner of the room. After I positioned myself dangerously in the middle of the room did the noise finally reach me.
The door to the shabby, old room opened slowly and I was met with a face of pure horror. A little girl stood in the door wearing a night robe and only one rabbit slipper.
The girl was torn up, dusted up, and through out into the rain and fire. She was covered in filth and looked as if she spent the last year crying. Below her eyes, were the cleanest place on her.
"Help me," the little girl whispered in a worried cry. She collasped onto the floor in a huddled ball still awake.
I could only stare at her.Who was she? Why was she here? How did she get in? Why is she dirty? "Who are you running from little one?" I whispered moving toward her.
She whispered something very lowly. Help me, she said this again and agian.
I moved past her and pulled the door shut. I only left a little crack for me, but I doubt that girl was going anywhere.
I crept down the barely lit hallways and made my way for the front door. Nothing was moving, as I expected it to be. Only the spiders worked on their webs and the cockroaches in their...crawl?
The girl left the front door wide open and I hissed as I slowly pushed the door shut. And just as I had it before, I pushed one heavy box in front of the inward swinging doors. It was a terribly slow process, but before I had extra feline help.
The only door was shut tightly and secured. Out of all the ways possible to get in, the windows were the only source. As the windows were perfectly boarded with sturdy planks, nothing could get in. The girl was safe.
"You are safe little one," I whispered as I slid in the room. I closed the door shut behined me and looked at the little girl as she was now sitting in a chair across the room looking at me intently.
"They want me," she whispered unsteadily.
"Who's they?" I asked on equal level getting closer to her.
The girl wiped her face revealing a streak of a somewhat clean line. She herself was a very curious mixture of a light tan and a shiny pale. Her eyes were a beautiful celestial cyan green as well. It was very clear she was not normal.
"Cat," the girl whispered hesitantly. "Cat who are you?" She held out her hand and all I did was stare at her. "Please, I need you trust you."
"A run away," I whispered. I relaxed as I looked at the girl now. "Of course. Ungratefull kids run off only to be found. Go back to your parents!"
I turned away and her hand immediately grabbed me. I hissed and clawed at her hands untill she let me go. "What is wrong with you!" I shouted no knowing of what would happen next.
"There's nothing wrong with me! I just can't go back! Those creatures are after me! Do you not understand? I am not a rogue! I just don't want to die!"
The girl burst into tears and retreated further into her corner. She cried, but after a while even she was too weak to cry anymore. She fell asleep in the very spot she was in.
I was frozen in my place. Her voice went on and on agian on repeat in my mind.
She understood me... she-she understood me. Impossible.
I slowly crept towards her and touched her bare foot. A pulse ran through me like an electric jolt. It felt odd, but warming at the same time.
I curled up on top of the girl's feet and glared at the cockroach that was now bold enough to crawl in the middle of the room.
I raised up, but turned back toward the girl and laid back down. "You win now little bug. Sad to say I cannot kill you because I now have some one to protect."
