It was dark, and I am unstable. I’m falling constantly. Why am I even running? When I turned around I see those eyes. Courtney’s eyes. But she’s not right, low to the ground. And I can’t see her body. I run across a bridge, the moon’s beams lighting up my surroundings. When I reached the end of the bridge I found myself ripping the rope of the post. The bridge fell to the bottom. My head lifted and the eyes glanced at me with a smile. White and sharp, as if it were cartoon shark teeth from Finding Nemo. And as I turned around to run again, my vision began to fade.

I was back in my room. Blue and yellow walls that have darkened from the day turning into night. A washcloth fell from my head as I sat up. I walked down the stairs. Mom ran to the bottom of the stairs.

“How you feeling?!” She grabbed my arm and helped me to the kitchen table. “I’ve never seen you look so bad.”

“Yeah, it’s weird.”

“Well, maybe you should stay home tomorrow.”

“I think that would probably be good.”

I needed a break. It was get up, go to school, homework, and then study. After studying I would sleep.

My mom tried to help me feel comfortable, but nothing seem to help. She made me soup, rinst my washcloth with cold water, and brought me aspirin. My cell chipped and I unlocked the home screen.

Jess : Hey girly, how you holding up?

Katie : I think I’m alright. I slept the minute I got home. Weird dream but not much I can do there.

Jess : Sorry to hear that. You coming to school tomorrow?

Katie : I think I’ll take the day off.

Jess : What about the date with Jason? Gunna miss out on that?

Katie : Still thinking about that.

Jess : You seriously thinking about going on a date with him?

'Katie : Yeah. Why wouldn’t I?

Jess : Oh, I don’t know maybe because he has a girlfriend.

Katie : Relax, she’ll never know that it was a date.

Jess : I don’t think she would really care, she cares you’re near him.

Katie : Well, whatever.

I’d had enough of Jess’s “she’s gonna kill you” talk. Besides if Courtney wants to take a swing at me then let her. I don’t care it will show how ugly she really is. And if I could  get Jason to date me it would be a huge achievement for me.

That next morning I slept in really late and finished reports for school. The rest of my day was spent laying around, spending time with the T.V and checking social media. I went to Jason’s homepage.

He had all sorts of band pictures posted on his wall, his last post that he wrote was about life and how he couldn’t wait to escape Maine. I could agree with him, if you love natural, this is your new home land. I clicked on pictures. I scrolled down to find more old ones. There one next to a tree, eighth grade graduation, him seeing his friends eating worms, then him throwing up. Pretty messed up. Then him at about like thirteen with courtney. His eye’s looked different.

Switching back to the older pictures I looked closer. I saw his eye’s, and they were blue, but not diamond shaped pupil. What happened at thirteen?

My phone buzzed again.

Jess : Look Kate, I love you, but you going out with Jason is a bad idea. You ain’t gonna get anywhere with this kid as long as Courtney is in the way. I’m just trying to look out for you bc I know what happened  in the bathroom. Courtney slapping you, and she’ll do worse next time. Just please take my advice and stay away from this boy. The saying, “if you love something, set it free and if love returns you can have it” or something like that. Try it. For me at least.
