The suns reflection bounced around the room, causing me to open my eyes. As I turned over, Jason was gone. Disappeared like nothing. Looking down into my sheets, I reminded myself nothing too extreme happen last night. It was just a simple night with Jason, for now. I crawled out of bed and walked downstairs. Grabbing the cereal, I checked my phone.
Jess had texted me “Night” and mom said that they would be home around four this afternoon. They had to fill out some paperwork for Meg, and then they’d come home. I didn’t question what I’d do for the day because I was under watch for the next few weeks, along with surveillance twice a week. The police stuck around and I finished cleaning a little. I was feeling fine.
Understanding that Meg and I were put through a completely horrible experience and would be in therapy for the longest time, I felt pretty normal. This incident didn’t really bother me that much. Meg and me had seen a lot. She, on the other hand, seem to be awake for the longest times during our kidnapping. Did she see Courtney, too? I tried to think hard, and I was right. She had to have seen her once? If she did, she didn’t tell the police either. Or maybe she did. So confusing!
The questions poured into my head. Trying to connect the dots was too hard. It was impossible. I needed to find out Jason’s secret, if I did maybe it would be able to at least connect some of the dots.
I’ve been home for a few weeks now. If I went out, I either had a cop near me, or I was sitting in the front with them. I don’t have to go to school until the men are caught or it's safe enough for me to go out on my own. The F.B.I. found some hints around the barn and are checking everything that could be a clue. I needed to talk to Meg about her maybe seeing Courtney, because if the police found out about Courtney, they would arrest her. That would look great in court.
“Hey.” I knocked on Megs door. “What'cha doing?”
“Nothing,” She closed the book she was reading.
“How you doing?”
“Not bad.”
I went and sat next to her. She leaned on my arm as I stroked her hair. “Can I ask you something about the kidnapping?”
“Not my favorite conversation with you, but I guess you can.”
“Do remember any...like...people?”
“Yeah, they were mostly all guys.”
“Mostly?”
“I thought I heard a girls voice, but I couldn’t tell if it was you or someone else.”
“Did you ever see a girl?”
“When I was waking up one time, I saw a girl outline. She had like, longer hair than you. It was way lighter.”
“Like blond?”
“Yeah, did you see her too?”
“I think so, but why didn’t you tell the cops?”
“I don’t know, I just didn’t see her, so I thought no description would help.”
I smiled, “I don’t know, maybe there was a girl.”
“Do...do you think we’ll be safe. I mean, I don’t understand why they would want to take us. Or you for that matter, I mean, you had that thing at the gas station with Jason a couple of months ago.” Megan was really putting the puzzle pieces together.
“I don’t know, maybe.”
“I mean, I don’t think they wanted me, I think they wanted you, but why? What have you done to anyone before that would make them do that.”
