I started texting Jason again. I mean, if Ellie did know everything about Jason, he must know who she was. Maybe this Ellie girl had secrets of her own.
Katie : Hey can I ask you something?
Jason : Sure anything.
Katie : Do you know somebody named Ellie?
Jason : Last name?
Katie : Cambridge?
Jason : Yeah, I know her, how do you?
I set my phone down. I was going to the library tomorrow, finding Ellie, and then finding everything out. How long had she been watching me and Jason. I bet Courtney paid her money to take those pictures by the dock, and on the boat. Why wouldn't Jason tell me about her? I mean he would text me at night and talk to me about Courtney, Shasta, and his party life. I’ve never heard or read her name before.
I went on facebook and typed in her name. It showed several pictures but none of them were her.
Jason : Look, I don’t know how you know this person, but don’t listen to her, she’s a liar, and hates me.
I still didn’t respond. And I wasn’t going to. So tonight I wrote another letter.
Dear Ellie,
I know who you are, and I know that you wrote me the first letter. I’m not saying this in person to you, because I don’t want people knowing our conversation, so I’d like to know everything. I understand that Jason doesn’t want me hanging out with you, so lets keep it a secret.
School was a pain to get by, but when I made it to the library, I went straight to check out.
“Need more help?” Ellie’s voice high and cheerful.
“Yes actually.” I handed her my news letter.
Her eye’s went from calm and settle, to extremely nervous. She unfolded the letter, her eye’s skimming each line. Her eyes pierced mine.
“How?”
“That note for permission on the book, looks extremely close to the letter.”
“Look, Kate, I understand that you want answers, but it’s not my place.”
“But it was your place to stick your nose in my business?”
“Yes and no. It’s hard to explain, mostly because-” She cut off, staring at my shoulder. When I looked over, the corner of my eye caught something unexpected. Jason. Standing right behind me with some random books in his hand.
“Oh, hey Kate. Didn’t know you’d be here.”
That was such a lie. Mostly because he wasn’t smiling, he was giving me a death stare. He set the books on the table. “Me and you, we’re going outside and skipping school, right now. Meet me at the bathrooms in five minutes. If you aren’t there, you don’t even know what will happen.”
He walked out, and my body began to shake in fear. Ellie grabbed my shirt and pulled me in close. Then whispering in my ear she said, “Kate, go with him, but don’t let him out of Lincoln. Record everything he says. I’ll send you a letter tomorrow, leave your window unlocked.”
She pushed me away, grabbing the books Jason set down and running deep into the library. I walked to the bathrooms entrance, adjusting my bag. I looked around and Jason came and grabbed my arm. We exited out of the back and ran to the parking lot. When we got in, we just sat there.
