With the next day, I waddled out of bed. I found my phone laying on the ground, the screen still intact. I clicked the power button and unlocked my phone. Eight text messages from Jason.

Jason : Okay?

Jason : Hello?

Jason : Please don’t be mad at me.

Jason : Kate, please come on.

Jason : Alright, look I know you’re reading all of these.

Jason : Fine, ignore me, see if I care.

Jason : Okay, please respond?

I can’t believe he would so much as even talk to me. I mean I know he cares, but still, I wasn’t falling for it. I looked at my desk. The card Vicki gave me is underneath my book. I grabbed it. Maybe I should take the therapy, I could use it. I don’t understand everything that was happening and the fact that those boys from the gas station could be looking for me. I picked up my phone and began dialing the number. It took three rings and Vicki’s voice greeted me.

“Hello?” she said.

“Hey, umm, it’s Katie, from the gas station scene.”

“Changed your mind?”

“Yes. Look, I don’t know what time you're busy to, but I’d like to have my free session.”

“I don’t have anyone tonight at 2. You can come by and we can talk.”

She gave me the address to her house and said she’d see me there, but I should inform my parents before going. So, I walked downstairs. My mom was dressed up a little bit, drinking coffee.

“Where are you going?” I asked.

“Well I got called to a meeting, so I’m headed up there. On my way home, I’m going to the grocery store. Would you like anything?”

“No, but can I talk to you.”

“Sure, I’m here for you anytime.”

“When we were in the police station, this woman named Vicki talked to me. She wanted me to take therapy with her and the first section is free, so I’m going tonight at 2.”

My mom’s eyes went from, calm and loving listener, to unbelieveable listener. “What?! Why?! Therapy is for people who are depressed. You aren’t depressed, are you?”

“No mom, I just feel like maybe after the experience maybe, I should try it.”

She sighed, “If this is what you need, then I guess I can talk to your dad about this tonight, if you still want to go.”

My mom left for work and I got ready for the day. I came downstairs and turned the T.V. on. The news channel was on and the big news was posted at the bottom of the screen. Teenagers Get Held Up Outside Maine Gas Station. The reporter was talking about it and it showed the footage from the gas station. Megan walked down. “Look at that, you’re on the news.”

“That’s not an achievement.”

“Maybe you’ll be popular. Mom leave yet?”

“Yup.”

“Cool, well, I’m probably going out with Destiny.”

“When?”

“In a few minutes. They’re going to the mall and getting me-” A honk broke her off. “Okay, leaving now.”

“I guess I’ll see you later.”

“Maybe.”

She opened the door and ran out.
