Midnight eventually came after the longest forty minutes of the coven's lives, and an ambulance came to pick up headmistress who was barely hanging onto her life by a thread. It was a miracle that she was still alive at all.
When the doctors asked what happened, the coven told them that there was a really bad cooking accident where headmistress fell into flames caused by oil spilling everywhere. It was the lamest excuse probably ever and incredibly hard to believe, but it was the best they could come up with on the spot. There was nothing else that seemed any more believable at the time.
Everyone stood scattered around in the front yard as Headmistress was set onto a gurney and loaded into an ambulance. No one could find the right words to speak to the rest of the group, so they all say in silence until Anya and Zahra informed everyone else that they were going to ride there with her. As they walked away, everyone else decided that it was time to go hail a cab to take to the hospital, so they all walked towards the curb.
Clarissa discreetly pulled Dan aside, and spoke in a low voice to him. "You should go back to him now."
"Now?!" Dan whisper-yelled. "I should be at the hospital with all of you guys supporting headmistress right now!"
Phil shouldn't be alone right now," Clarissa pleased him.
"This could be the last time we all see headmistress before she dies," Dan pointed out.
"This could be the last time you see Phil before he dies," Clarissa told him causing Dan to give Clarissa a confused and horrified look.
"What do you mean?" Dan asked cautiously.
"I mean I can read your mind. I saw all four of your predictions. Two of them ended in Phil getting hurt, and I have no idea how severe that could be just judging from your visions," Clarissa reminded him.
Dan sucked in a breath and stared at Clarissa with wide eyes. He was so preoccupied with trying to find out how to save the coven from Veronica that he had completely forgotten about what he saw happening to the love of his life.
"I'm going home. I'll meet you guys there in a little while," Dan said taking off down the side walk.
"I'll text you the address!" Clarissa called after him.
Dan hurried around the block and into an lonesome alleyway. When he was sure no one was looking he teleported himself back close to home.
He walked through the the streets in the middle of the dark, late night air. Soon, Dan reached the door to his flat and let himself in. Looking down at his phone, he realized just how much time he had wasted at the coven house leaving Phil alone and open to danger. 2:04 AM. I'm sorry, Phil, but I had to leave. I'm back now, so please don't be mad at me.
Dan rushed up the stairs and stopped when he noticed that the bathroom light down the hall was on with the door wide open.
"Phil?" Dan called out softly to the boy as he entered the illuminated room. Inside, he found Phil leaning over the toilet breathing hard like he was about to vomit.
"I think I'm gonna be sick," Phil huffed. "It's like a fever just all crashed down on me at once."
Dan immediately felt his stomach knot with fear, but at the same time he sighed with relief. It was the future where everyone was still alive. Well, alive so far anyways.
Suddenly, Dan remembered what Phil beating sick meant. S-she's here! Immediately, Dan started frantically looking around the room until his eyes landed on a dark figure wearing a hood in the shadows. Just as soon as he had seen it, however, the thing disappeared out of sight before he could see it clearly.
