"Well, you can't go near anyone who can read minds now," Anya's mother huffed.
"Well, then, what am I going to do the next time I'm near the council?!" Anya exclaimed.
"You put up a wall. You put up a wall around your thoughts and you don't let anyone in," Anya's mother instructed.
"How do I do that?!" Anya cried.
Mrs. Hecklson cupped Anya's face. "You will your thoughts to be yours and only yours. You don't let anyone else in your mind, you push everything else out."
"How am I supposed to do that?!"
"You'll learn. Now go pack a bag. You'll be staying with a friend of mine for a while."
"WHAT?!" Anya yelled.
"W-wait, why does she have to leave?!" Kurt jumped in.
"Because if one of my bosses read her thoughts or find out about this, you'll both die! I can't have you two together anymore!" Mrs. Hecklson blared.
"What?! Mom, you can't do that!" Anya screeched.
"You have no room to talk after what you've done!" Anya's mother shouted back at her. "Now do as I say! Pack everything!"
Tears began to flow down Anya's face as she silently turned and shuffled to her room. It wasn't fair. She should be able to tell him. Anya trusted him, and quite honestly, who did Kurt have to tell?
Kurt followed Anya into her room, and in silence, the couple began to put Anya's things into suitcases.
"I'm sorry," he whispered. "It's all my fault that you're in this mess. If I had just left it alone-"
"Don't blame yourself. I'm the one that made the decision to tell you," Anya cut him off.
"But you wouldn't have felt the need to do that if I hadn't pressured you so much," Kurt pressed on.
"It doesn't matter who's fault it is anymore. What's done is done, and we both have to live with the consequences now," Anya stopped him.
"I contacted my friend from London," Anya's mother interrupted as she walked over to Anya's door. "She said it was alright for you to 'study witchcraft abroad' in London with her. Her name is Maya Lancaster and she's the headmistress of the London Coven. She's coming to get you within the next couple of days."
Anya nodded sadly, "Ok."
"She had no idea about your situation, nor does she need to know. You're 'studying abroad' in London is what she understands. As for your brother and father, neither of them need to know either," Mrs. Hecklson instructed.
Anya nodded again slowly, and went back to her packing.
"And as for you," she said turning to Kurt. "I want you to leave this house and never return. Forget even knowing my family, and don't even think about Anya ever again!"
"Mom!"
"Quiet! You break the law, this is how it goes! Now say goodbye. He's leaving for good!" Mrs. Hecklson demanded.
Kurt walked over and pulled Anya into a tight hug as tears began spilling out of her eyes. She couldn't believe that this was just it for them. She didn't want it to be. Anya looked up into Kurt's eyes, and he leant down and kissed her for what would probably be the last time ever. None of this was fair. She had always been so aloof due to these powers of hers, but now that she had finally found someone who understood her, they were being ripped apart.
"It'll be ok. I'll find you again," Kurt promised when he pulled away.
"Come on, Kurt. Let's go," Anya's mother butted in.
