Cold and gray. That's how the London September skies looked on that day he remembered so vividly. The day everything changed.
"Dan?" Phil poked his head in the brown haired boy's room, "I've come up with a new game. Grab a pen and paper and meet me in my room," Phil instructed.
"Huh?" Dan whirled around, but he was already gone and waiting. "Ok," Dan muttered grabbing a small notepad and black pen.
Although it was a short walk, Dan's mind boomed with thoughts the equality of a million years. I wonder what he wants me to do. It doesn't really matter though as long as I get to spend that time with Phil! Damn, I love him!
Dan sat down on the edge of Phil's bed, and looking into the dark haired boy's bright smile, his own faded.
But you can't love him. He's straight and it would ruin both of your careers.
"So what your going to do first is write a name. Any name just write a name," Phil instructed. "Then under that, you're going to write down five adjectives. Below that you'll write three activities. Lastly, you'll write four objects underneath that."
"Ok," Dan said chuckling.
"Now since your birthday is 6/11, you're going to put down 'the toasty warlock' at the bottom," Phil added.
Dan just stared at Phil, "Toasty warlock? What the actual fuck?"
"It's of those things where you pick a title based on your birthday!" Phil explained.
"O...k..." Dan chuckled.
"Now you're going to tell a story based on your title about a person with the name you wrote down using the other stuff you wrote down as things about your little person! You have sixty seconds, go!"
"What, umm, ok," Dan stopped and began giggling, "There once was a boy named Kanye who was apparently a toasty warlock." The two boys broke down into laughter as Dan attempted to continue. "He was hairy, sexy, lazy, hungry, and slimy. Kanye liked to browse the Internet, ride llamas, and brush unicorns. Using his cooking pot, Kanye would squish gummy bears and hop on lamp posts while scouting out chicken fetuses. The end."
Phil just stared at him for a good five seconds before bursting out into laughter. "What?!"
"I don't know. I just don't even know," Dan laughed into his hands. Sighing, he set the pen and notepad down next to him, a sharp spike of adrenaline rushing through him as he did. Looking down beside himself, he realized that the pen was in his right hand. What the- Did I just write all of that with my right hand?! But that doesn't make any sense, I'm left handed!
"Dan? You alright?" Phil's voice rang breaking his train of thought.
"Huh? Uh, yeah, I'm fine. I just remembered there's something I need to do before it's too late," Dan lied getting up and exiting the room. Quickly, he shut and locked the door to his room and sat at his desk.
Ok, what the hell is going on?! he thought looking at the slant of the words on the notebook page. Sure enough, they leaned to the right, indicating righty handwriting. Slowly, Dan picked up the pen with his right hand and attempted to scribble down his name. Dan Howell flowed easily into the paper as if it was written with his dominant hand. Switching the pen back over to his left hand, he did the same thing. Dan Howell came out perfectly.
What?! I've never been ambidextrous before! I've never even practiced, so why can I write perfectly with both hands?! Dan thought, the whole situation beginning to scare him.
