Everyone hurried inside the house and gathered around the living room. Aksel and the other representatives followed them in, making their way to the front of the room and staring all of them down.
"Well, sit!" Aksel exclaimed, and everybody took a seat on the couches.
They all sat in silence, the seconds passing like hours until Anya finally spoke up.
"Sir, if you don't mind me asking, how do you know about black Veronica?" she asked.
Aksel sighed. "Thousands of years ago after her horrific death, we found her as a spirit. We kept the secret from your coven, but eventually we learned that you were doing the same thing. We decided not to say anything or take any action until we had a solution to the problem. We never were able to come up with one, but she's gone now thanks to Daniel."
"Sir, are we still in trouble? For going through top secret files?" Dan questioned nervously.
"Wait! You did what?!" Louise cried.
"Not to worry, my dear," he told Louise, calming her down before turning back to Dan. "Yes. You and Ms. Bellerose are completely exonerated from any crimes that you may have committed under the influence of the Black Veronica."
"Thank you, sir," Clarissa and Dan said in unison.
"However, that does not forgive the human that you have brought into this," Aksel said sternly.
Dan's stomach tightened into knots. "But, sir, he's my flatmate and boyfriend. I couldn't keep lying to him!"
"I'm sorry, but rules are rules. The only reason I am giving you a pass on this one is because you took out one of the biggest threats to the London Coven and London itself," Aksel explained.
"Wait! Isn't there a trial you can do? Isn't there some way for a human to be approved for knowing!" Dan protested.
"This is true," Aksel muttered. "Perhaps we can give Philip Lester a chance."
"Thank you, sir!" Dan sighed in relief.
"But we must have until morning to decide. Until then, it's the cell in the tunnels below this place for him." With Aksel's request, the other representatives stepped forward and
forcefully grabbed Phil out of his seat."No! Wait! You can't do that! At least keep him up in the house!" Dan begged, but the council would hear none of it. He chased after Phil, but Aksel stepped forwards and put his hand in Dan's shoulder.
"What's done is done, Mr. Howell, and you cannot change it. So prove to me why you should get your way in the future," he muttered to the boy before following the other members into the office and down into the tunnels.
Dan stood there in shock, unable to believe what had just happened. All the events swirled around and sped by in his mind at too fast a pace for him to comprehend. After all his efforts not to get Phil involved, here he was watching him possibly being led to his death. And the worst part was, he could do absolutely nothing about it.
"Dan," a soft voice came from behind him. He turned around to see that it was Clarissa. Gently, she placed her hand on his shoulder and led him back to the couch where she sat down beside him. The rest of the coven gathered around him with concern written all over their faces.
"We're not going to let them hurt Phil in any way," PJ reassured him, and everybody else nodded in agreement.
"Everything will be ok. Even if not at first, we'll make it alright," Anya added.
"Thanks guys," Dan mumbled.
