Writers often ask me how to gain a following on Wattpad, and the answer to it is magically simple, if daunting.
💪 WORK HARD! 💪
At one point in time, I had over 100 private messages running simultaneously. However, I didn't message these people with "READ MY BOOK OMG PLEASE." I messaged them just to be friends. I would read and comment on many books, never once asking for readership, and certainly not without giving something in return.
Remember, there are real people on the other side of your phone. Be kind and considerate to them, be considerate about their own stories and aspirations, and be humble. People are not rungs on the your ladder to success. Caring for others should be higher on your list—much higher.
Talking to people, doing R4Rs, answering my DMs: these are things I still do. I think some people are intimidated to message me because I'm a Wattpad Star, but I still answer all my messages and I always will. I'm just another human being writing stories!
Are you an introvert? I certainly am. If you are too, don't be shy! Just keep talking to people, keep reading, and eventually people will read your stories in return. And if you stay out there, and keep getting reads and keep engaging, readers will start to find you as well.
