She was awaken in her sleep with a gentle nudge on her arm. Somehow, her arms and back was stiff, as well as her neck. The scent of lilacs and home filled her nose, making her bleary eyes blink open. There was ever only one person who carries that lovely and unique scent.
Stretching her arms, the warm sunlight fell upon the silhouette of her mother. She slowly sat up and leaned on something rough and hard - the trunk of a tree - still dazed and tired from the nap.
"My sweet angel fell asleep out here on the garden. Are you still too tired? Shall I bring you and Michelle inside?" her mother sweetly said.
Lucy stared around her surroundings, trying to recall what she did just before she fell asleep. The tiny white table at the center of the garden was decorated with flowers and a tiny pink teaset. On one chair sat Michelle, dressed in a lovely yellow sundress with flower patterns. The dress was a gift by Spetto-san, who had quickly sewn the tiny article of clothing after little Lucy had just received the doll. Lucy smiled at the memory. She was lucky to have such warm and loving friends.
She stood up from the ground, her mother doing the same, and walked towards Michelle, plucking her out of the seat and giving her a warm squeeze.
Her mother smiled at her daughter's actions. "Sorry Mama, I guess I fell asleep under the sun. It is pretty warm out here, a nice day to take a nap," Lucy gave a sheepish smile. "But you know, I had a dream about something."
"Oh really now? What could a girl like you be possibly dreaming about?"
Her mother sat down on the chair that Michelle occupied. Lucy scrambled towards her and sat up on her lap, with Michelle on her arms.
"Well, there was a boy and a girl living near a forest. They were brothers and sisters, and loved each other so. On that afternoon, they were playing near a pond when the little girl tripped over a small rock."
"Oh, she didn't hurt herself badly now did she?" her mother asked, intrigued.
Lucy vigorously shook her head. "No she didn't Mama. Not in my dream anyway," she added. "She landed on a tiny green frog."
Lucy brought her little hands and cupped them together. "About this big."
Her mother laughed sweetly. "That is a rather small frog. Tell me what happened next."
"So they stopped playing. The little girl stared at the poor frog, who was squashed by her fall. She carried the frog gently and brought it towards her face," she added. "And then she said sorry and hugged it."
"It was really weird Mama. Why would she say sorry and hug it when it doesn't even talk?" then she chuckled, as if she was telling a joke. "She must be silly."
Her mother smiled gently. Of course it would seem silly to a little child. They were just kids, so who could really blame Lucy for thinking this?
She called her out. "Lucy, my dearest angel, that might seem like a silly dream but, it teaches a lot of things little girls and boys like you need to learn." Lucy looked up, ready to listen to what her mother wishes to say.
"Know this, my child. Every dream has a meaning. And every dream will become a part you will carry as you journey through life. No matter how silly it may be, understand that dreams are very powerful. Especially if a little girl such as you dreams it." she explained with a smile.
"Every dream is important?"
"Yes of course! Why else are we granted the power to dream? Now, do you want to know what your dream means?"
