Lucy/Kiera P.O.V
The bush shook and out came a cat with red fur wearing a blue vest. Another one followed, wearing a pink frog suit. I looked at the grey wolf beside me and put my finger in my lips. Immediately, he understood what it meant and watched the cats silently. Turning back to the two cats, the one with the blue vest said "I'm tired Sting-kun." The other cat yawned and stretched it's small arms. "Frosch is tired. Can Rogue-san carry Frosch?" the cat asked.
Talking cats... perhaps they are exceeds... I thought and wondered who their owners are. Thinking about it made me remember a certain annoying blue cat and his pink haired partner. Back then, when life was all sunshine and butterflies, it irritates me that they keep on barging to my apartment. When they stopped, instead of making me feel peaceful that they're gone, it made me long for their presence. But, life isn't all about sunshine and butterflies. Life is not a fantasy, but a cruel reality. I finally opened my eyes and realized that, when they stopped coming to my house. Good times have to end too, you know.
"Lector, don't just run away like that, you might get lost without us." A masculine voice called out in the air and out emerged a blond guy with ocean blue eyes, a mage probably, wearing a light blue vest. He scolded the red exceed, whom I suppose is called Lector. "Frosch, you too." Another masculine voice said and out came a guy with shaggy raven black hair and crimson red eyes. He, unlike the blond one, is wearing dark colored clothes with what seems to be heavy cloth.
Clearly, both of them are best friends, the type that's not supposed to get along together but they did. Opposites attract, right? "Did Frosch-san made Rouge-san worry? If so, Fro is sorry." He sighed.
Tired from standing, I sat down, cross-legged, on the floor. Kuno immediately lied on my lap and I ran my fingers in his mane. "Come on, let's move. I'm starving. Besides, I bet the old man was bluffing about the powerful mage and 'great creature' to scare us off. Tch, like that would scare us off." Sting commented, irritated. Rogue nodded and they both went their way, with the exceeds beside them.
After half an hour, I dispelled the barrier. Kuno decided to check on them and I resumed to my training. After an hour, I took a shower and ate a light snack. I recalled the words of Sting, and surprisingly, it stabbed me in the heart. Am I a joke? Was that what I've been doing all along? Avoiding people and making them think that I don't exist? Is that what I want? To be alone in my entire life? Tears poured out of my eyes and I sobbed quietly. Kuno nuzzled his nose in my cheek and I almost forgot that he can feel my emotions.
"I know that I've been on my own ever since I left the guild. I know that I grew stronger every day. I know I'm a coward for avoiding people and hiding away from the world. I know that I don't interact with others because I'm afraid to let them in. Because if I do, I'm afraid that they would betray me again. I know that's a cowardly thing to do but, I just don't know the answer anymore." I sobbed, pouring my heart with my tears.
I didn't notice arms hugging me and fingers running through my dull hair. My celestial spirits are looking at me worriedly, even Aquarius. Ever since my transformation and my leave, they all turned concerned and less joyful. Again, it is my fault. I hugged Loke back and the tears kept on running down my cheeks, even though I want it to stop.
"Lucy, you would be very dumb to think that you are a coward, because you're not. We know that you're a wonderful girl who cares for her friends and us. We know you're strong. No one else collected as many keys as you, and that's not the only magic you can use." Aquarius said with a bit of a scolding tone, but I know that deep down, she's more worried and concerned for me than the other spirits.
Loke rocked me back and forth. "You are the most passionate person I've met, Lucy. You are strong-willed and clever. You care for us deeply and treat us as your friends. You don't give up on us, no matter what. You've faced so many hardships and sacrificed a lot, to save others. And for all of these, all of us are deeply and humbly grateful for you. Don't ever think of yourself as a coward, because you're anything but that, Princess." he told me soothingly.
I can't believe that they think of me this way. After everything I've done, they still support me every way they can. I felt touched. A surge of warmth surrounded my heart and I immediately felt relieved. Comforted, my tears stopped and I faced all of them. Their concerned looks were replaced with smiles. A small but noticeable smile graced my face and they all gave me a group hug.
"Oh did you all see? Lucy smiled. It's been a while since you smiled, mistress." Capricorn said, pleased. Virgo and Aquarius nodded with a smile. Everyone cheered pleasantly.
"Minna, thank you so much for your support. Please, go back to the spirit world. It's late, and your'e all probably tired." I told them. One by one, they went back, but not without giving me a hug first. Before Virgo, Aries, Aquarius and Loke left, they all wished me goodnight and told me they would visit in the morning, although I politely declined.
When all of them are gone, Kuno and I went up to the tree hut. I took a quick shower and changed into my pajamas. Kuno waited patiently as I fixed up the mat and blankets where he sleeps. Then, lying down, I closed my eyes and drifted to sleep with a smile on my face.
