The summer went by in a blur. Annoying brothers, hot days, swimming, YouTube, the usual things.
School was starting back up again, and that can only mean one thing, I get to talk with Oscar.
I wake up and do mah thing, get dressed, brush teeth, eat breakfast, annoy brother, leave house with backpack and morning spirit. The first week of school is always the best.
I walk to the bus stop and see new 6th graders and former 6th graders. Oh, yeah! I'm an 8th grader now! This is so cool! Not -_-. Oh well, guess I have to deal with more homework and junk. Hmm... I wonder what classes I got.
~~~time skip to the first class~~~
I walk into History to see two of my friends, Eraj and Julia. I'm a little early since my locker was near the classroom, so there's only one other person with us. That's right, you guessed it, a new kid. Meh, she looks like a stereotypical white girl. She seems a'ight, but I don't feel like talking to her... something about her seems off.
I wait with the other two weirdos and chat about life while people arrive when suddenly, out of nowhere, a familiar person walks in. It's Oscar. Dun dun duuuuuuuun!
He looks slightly taller and a bit sunburned, but he still looks the same. I was in mid-sentence when he walked in, so I kinda froze there with my mouth slightly open as I try to form words to continue the conversation I was having.
After no words came out, Julia waved a hand in front of my face. I snapped out of my haze and refocused on my friends. They were both staring at me with a sly grin.
"So, still got a crush on him?" Asked Julia, already knowing the answer. I bowed my head in shame to answer her question. With my response, Julia did a fan-girl squeal and acted all giddy. Weird.
"I can't believe it!! Why don't you just ask him out already? I totally ship it!" Julia said, urging me to talk to him.
"Are you sure Danah can talk to him without getting distracted like she just did?" Eraj asked, her smile getting wider after each word.
"Shut up Eraj, or I'll wipe that smile off of your face!" I said angrily. They both laughed at the same time that Melissa walked in. Yay! The gangs all here!
"Hey guys, what'd I miss?" She questioned after seeing my mad face, Julia's fan-girl pose and Eraj with a scared look on her face. Yeah, it would be confusing if you walked in right there.
Julia pointed towards Oscar. Melissa followed her finger and saw him, immediately understanding what was happening.
"Danah, go ask him out, or else that new girl might beat you to it." She said. I looked over to the new girl to see her practically drooling over him. As I watched her, she got up and walked over to him. They started talking. Talking became a conversation. The conversation involved laughing. Laughing means smiling. This can't happen. I won't let it happen. No one can have him but me.
Woooooah, slow ya roll, missy. Calm yo'self before you get all crazy. Stay calm and don't let your emotions get the best of you. Be a normal human being for once, got it? Got it.
Man, I shouldn't get all possessive like that unless we're dating. That was really creepy. But, where did that come from? Maybe I shouldn't eat cake before bed. Yeah, that's it.
"Sooooo... when you gonna ask him out?" Eraj asked.
"I don't know, someday this week, probably."
"WOAH! You're actually gonna do it? You're not joking around?" Melissa obviously didn't believe me with what she just asked. Does she have no faith in me?
"Of course I'm gonna do it. Why wouldn't I? I can't have that doofus getting to him first. What's her name anyways?"
"Mary, I think. Just remember, keep your friends close, but your enemy's closer." Said Julia, giving me a wink at the end. Man, my friends are so accepting. They're so cool.
"Will do!" With that and a sly wink, I sat down in my seat. The bell rang and our new teacher walked in. He gave us the syllabus and junk, then let us talk amongst ourselves. He seems like a cool teacher.
~~~time skip to the end of day~~~
Man, it sucks that I don't have any more classes with Oscar or Eraj except for History, but at least I have 3 classes with Melissa and 2 classes with Julia.
I grab my stuff and head towards the bus ramp. As I'm walking, I see Oscar. Wow, one coincidence after another. I decided that I should go talk to him.
"Hey Oscar." I said, walking next to him.
"Why are you talking to me?" Haha, man, I love his jokes.
"Because I want to get to know you better... and apologize for yelling at you last school year."
"Really?"
"Of course. Maybe we should start over. Hi, I'm Danah, the girl you have 1st period with." I said confidently.
"Hey, I'm Oscar, the guy you yelled at last year."
"What's your favorite color, Oscar?" I asked.
"Wha- what? Why is that important?" Hmm, apparently I caught him off-guard.
"Well, I said I wanted to get to know you better, didn't I? So, let me repeat it: what is your favorite color?"
"Um... red?"
"Cool! Mine is blue."
"Well, Danah, I have to go home now. See you tomorrow!" He said before walking the other way while I got on my bus. I thought about the conversation I just had with him. Man, the girls are gonna freak out!
Is this what it feels like to make progress on a really hard task? Wow, this feels great! I can't wait to finish it.
