Police were still investigating what happened to Antonio. There was reason to believe a large animal did it due to the foot prints. Mostly a large dog. So they put up fliers about a large dog sighting. Stephen was lonely since Antonio seemed to be his only friend. Skai and Spencer saw him eating lunch by himself and decided to sit with him. Stephen was kind of startled since no one really sits with him.
"Hi Stephen", said Skai giving him a smile.
"Hey", he whispered quietly.
"We noticed that you seemed a bit sad and lonely", Skai said awkwardly.
Spencer talked this time. "And we were wondering if you wanted to hang with us?"
Stephen looked up from his lunch. "Really?", he asked.
"Sure. Why don't we introduce you to our friends?", Skai asked. Stephen gave them a smile.
"That would be great."
Later in film class, Mrs. Jacob was talking about their projects. "Stephen?", Mrs. Jacob called. He looked up at her. "Since Antonio's going to be in the hospital for some time, you can pick a group."
"Can I be in Skai and Spencer's group?" Mrs. Jacob nodded. He got up and went to sit at their group.
"Also, since you have many group members, I will be seperating you by boys and girls. But you guys can still do the same presentation. Is that okay?", Mrs. Jacob asked. The group nodded.
"Great. Well, have fun." Mrs. Jacob walks away.
*****It was finally the end of the day. Skai and Stephen planned to work on their project from research class. "We should do a favorite animal, maybe a dog", suggested Stephen.
"No", said Skai. "That seems a little too simple. How about wolves? I guess their kind of like dogs."
Stephen nodded in agreement. "That's not a bad idea. Let's go over your house to discuss further facts."
"How about we go to your house instead. We are... um... still unpacking." Stephen shrugged.
"Okay, I guess that's fine."
While walking, Stephen stepped into some kind of hole. He looked down and saw that it was a paw print. "Probably from the dog the police were talking about."
Skai examined it. "It seems a bit bigger than a regular dog." She stoops down a bit, reaches her hand down to touch some mud in the print to smell it. "How convenient", said Skai unsurprised.
"What", Stephen asked leaning down a bit to see what she was talking about.
"It's from a wolf", Skai said standing up.
Skai explained. "My parents studied animals, but mostly wolves. So I got to live with them and learn some things." Stephen nodded.
"Okay, I get that. But it doesn't explain how wolves were here. There are no wolves in Newberry. Matter fact, there are none within a 100 mile radius."
"Well, we could look up that stuff while we're researching", said Skai a bit nervously.
Stephen shivered. "Yeah, let's go. It's getting a bit cold out here anyway."
