It was right there, right in front of his face. All he had to do was press that green button, one simple, gentle touch on the screen. Surely, Jongin would answer him. After all, he was the one who tried so many times to talk to Kyungsoo in the days following the party.

But then again, he hadn't tried again since Sunday morning, so maybe calling him would be a dead end.

No. Kyungsoo shook his head. Jongin would answer his call. If he really cared, he would answer regardless of the anger and frustration he might have felt toward him. And even if he didn't pick up the first time, he would a second or a third time and if not that, Kyungsoo figured he could leave a message and he would get back to him.

Yeah. He nodded his head and picked up his cellphone again. Taking a deep breath and closing his eyes, Kyungsoo tapped the call button and moved the phone up to his ear. It rang and rang and rang, each tone making Kyungsoo's foot tap faster on the carpet out of nervousness. They only stopped after a minute or so, at which point he got transferred to his voicemail.

"Hey, you've reached Jongin, but, clearly, I can't come to the phone otherwise you wouldn't even be listening to this. I'm either out, my phone's dead, or I just couldn't be bothered to pick up, so either way, leave a message and I'll consider getting back to you."

Kyungsoo couldn't help but laugh after listening to that, thinking that it definitely sounded like something his Jongin would say. He tried again. He waited patiently for the tones to pass again, chewing anxiously on his bottom lip and blinking several times. A sigh left his lips when he heard the same voicemail repeat again, but he waited until the end again and, this time, left a message.

"Um," he started as he gulped, "hey, Jongin, it's me, Kyungsoo, but you probably already knew that. I just, um, I wanted to talk to you if you aren't too busy. Xiumin told me you stopped by...so, when you get this, if you get this, call me." He hung up and threw his cell phone back down on his bed, groaning to himself as he laid down on it, too. His hands dragged down his face and sighed heavily. He may not have been a dating expert, but he definitely didn't think relationships were supposed to be this stressful.

"Soo, come on!" Xiumin yelled from downstairs. "We're gonna be late for school if we don't leave now!"

"Okay," Kyungsoo mumbled back as he pulled himself off the bed, knowing that Xiumin couldn't hear him. Sluggishly, he bent down to pick up his backpack and phone before heading downstairs.

*********

Kyungsoo could just tell that this day was going to progress in a tortuously slow manner as he pulled his binders and books out of his locker. There was still twelve minutes until the homeroom bell was due to go off, and he didn't think he could take his stuff out any slower than he already was to make time tick faster.

But nothing, not time nor school supplies, could tear his mind away from the terrifying thought that was possessing his mind. He was so afraid that he had pushed Jongin away and for what? Because he happened to find him at the wrong moment in time? That was hardly a good rationale for treating him like he was a carrier of the black plague.

If only he had realized that before he walked away, then maybe his heart and mind wouldn't be in such distress.

Just then, right as he closed his locker, Jongin walked in, the sight of him making Kyungsoo's heart stop for a moment. Jongin just stood there with his eyes directed at Kyungsoo for a second before blinking his eyes as if to get out of a trance and walking over to him. Kyungsoo cleared his throat and tried to straighten himself out as the taller approached him.

"Hey," Jongin said, awkwardly tapping his foot on the floor.

"Hi," Kyungsoo said, trying not to come off as too nervous--at least not as nervous as he actually was.
