It took a long time for the substance to completely wear off, but when it did and Kyungsoo finally woke up, he could still smell traces of whatever its contents were on his nose. Groaning, he slowly pulled himself off the stiff ground and propped his aching back against the stone wall. A soft and still drowsy moan tumbled from his lips as he furrowed his eyebrows and attempted to open his eyes fully.
As soon as he was able to do so, he twisted his head from side to side a few times and noticed the scarcity of items in the room he was currently in, that is excluding the pair of shelves and the scattered array of construction tools. The repelling musky smell hit his nose next, causing him to scrunch up his sweaty and somewhat dirty face and cover it. Cold temperatures sailed down his body and he shivered out of unconscious habit.
He realized then that he was most definitely in a basement of some sort, but he was lost as to whose basement it was. Why was he here, he asked himself, glancing around the silent room. Then, in the next split second, his memories began flooding back and his whole body froze.
He had been kidnapped.
With panic settling in within him at a mile a minute, Kyungsoo scrambled to his feet and dashed over to the white door on the other side of the room. He contributed all of the muscle strength he physically could to try to open that door, but it just wouldn't budge. He let go of the doorknob, panting with his heart racing like a madman and looked around for some sort of window or another possible exit. But once he found one, he was disheartened to find that it was far too high up for his height and there was hardly anything in the basement that he could use as a stepping ladder to get himself close to it to escape. His breath hitched and he blinked his eyes several times rapidly as tears welled in them. He clutched his chest and felt his heart racing against his hand. He closed his eyes and tried to talk himself out of his own mind.
He was going to be fine, he was going to be fine.
It had been quite a while since the last time he had a panic attack like this, which he was grateful for, but at the same time, he was upset because he didn't remember how to calm himself down.
You'll be fine, you're going to be fine, Kyungsoo. Positive thoughts, positive thoughts.
He breathed in and he breathed out.
Inhale, exhale...deep breaths.
He closed his eyes and imagined that he was somewhere else, somewhere nicer and warmer.
Picture a different setting, a happier setting. Someplace that will make you smile.
He tried, he tried so hard, but nothing was working and Kyungsoo still felt like he was going to die when he opened his eyes again. He couldn't remember for the life of him what the fourth step was and that was making him panic even more. Then, out of the blue, the door opened and the terrified boy sprang back, crawling back to his original spot. Two men and a woman entered the room and Kyungsoo's eyes widened in fear as he moved back even further, only stopping when his back hit the wall.
"Now, now," one of the men said in a frighteningly deep voice, kneeling down in front of the trembling boy, "there's no need to be scared, pal. We weren't hurt you, that is as long as you cooperate with us."
"W-Where am I-I?" Kyungsoo asked in a voice so shaky that the people could barely understand him.
"That's not important," he said, batting his hand and shaking his head after he stood. "What's important is why you're here, but unfortunately, I'm not telling you that either. At least, not yet, we still have one more surprise for you and I think you'll like it." Kyungsoo didn't respond the second time. He just sat there with his lips parted and his back throbbing in pain. "Okay, then." He chuckled. "You're done talking for the day, huh? Well, it's probably better that way anyhow." He stopped pacing back and forth and looked Kyungsoo directly in his face, giving him a fake expression of sympathy. "You need some rest," he said. He motioned for the other guy to come closer and he did so, handing him a thin blanket and pillow before walking back. The said male tossed them at Kyungsoo, who almost didn't catch them. "Night night," he said, spinning back around and starting for the door. "Don't misbehave or else." Then with that, the people left the room and the door slammed shut, locking afterward.
