Could Never Fail

Dark steel eyes flickered up at the opening door. A familiar blonde stepped through the door. The Colonel had taken a double take at the condition the door was in. It was still in one piece, and Edward was the one who opened it! "Fullmetal." The male began. The boy's eyes lifted towards the man. "Yes Colonel?" He seemed to growl almost. The small blonde had been trying to stay composed. After his latest mission, it became difficult. He was very lucky that Al hadn't see it. But, he had a hunch. The minute he walked into Mustang's office, his superior would be teasing him all about the mistakes he made. Edward knew that Roy already knew what happened. That's just the type of person Roy is. So now, the blonde looked at the male, awaiting punishment. But it never came. Instead, he felt two arms wrap around him, and pull him close. When he looked forward, he was met with a chest. And the chest belonged to Colonel Roy Mustang. Roy softly stroked Ed's hair. "It's okay. None of it is your fault." He explained softly. Ed just bit his lip as he nuzzled his head into Roy's chest and began sobbing. "Shhhh." Roy whispered softly, trying his best to calm the sobbing boy. Ed gently gripped Roy's coat, and slowly, his sobs died down to small cries. "I-I'm sorry, I fa-failed Colonel...." The small alchemist apologized softly. Roy just softly kissed the boy's lips. He relaxed a little when he felt the blonde kiss back. They pulled away after a few moments, and Roy rested his head on Ed's forehead. "You could never fail, love."
