BUT CAN YOU TELL ME NOW YOU'RE THE LUCKY ONE

-

Luke had never actually had his own song on any of his albums, he never wrote any of them himself. Because his songs always got rejected. He was twenty five, nine years in the business and he'd never had his own song recorded.

Some of the people who worked in the studio had to admit that some of the songs were beautiful when Luke had a melody and a template of what it would sound like. But they were told not to let his songs on the album.

Luke's record company wanted a brand, not Luke, they wanted a barbie doll they could merchandise and sell out to make more money. They wanted perfection, Luke just happened the be a sweet innocent sixteen year old at the time.

"Can we do this song?" Luke asked his friend (who was the only nice person there) and colleague, Tyler.

Tyler picked up the piece of paper Luke had pointed at and smiled at the lyrics. It was titled, Vapour, and it seemed so simple but beautiful but Tyler frowned slightly.

"I'm not allowed. We're on a schedule with another song." Tyler said, he loved Luke like a brother but he wanted to keep his job.

"Then I won't sing." Luke decided. "You can't force me."

"Luke you have to its in your contract."

"It's not." Luke said, standing up. "I read through that contract page to page and I know what I can and can't do. I can't date a boy and I can go on a vocal rest." Luke said smugly, also a little bitterly. "This is one thing I can do, it's what I'd always wanted to do, I'm singing my own song." Luke said.

Tyler looked at Luke. He saw the tiredness and desperation and the utter defeat of the industry. "Fine."

Tyler stood up, handed Luke the keys to the room. "Lock yourself in, don't let anyway else in or they will definitely make you stop."

Luke smiled, and took the keys. "Thank you."

Tyler left and Luke locked the door behind him, shoving a sofa in front of the door in case before he grabbed his song book and locked himself in the booth.

Luke wrote a new song as well as recording Vapour and the end result ended up being one of his biggest hits to date.

Luke had pushed his fans to get those two songs somewhere because they meant something and they were his. They weren't Ryder's they were Luke's.

That was the only part of Luke that everyone got to see, the raw emotion in those songs were the only trace of Luke Hemmings.
