YOU HAD IT FIGURED OUT SINCE YOU WERE IN SCHOOL EVERYBODY LOVES PRETTY

-

Michael and Luke stared at each other as they lay in Luke's new bed, their hands entwined.

Luke was telling Michael about how much he'd wanted to be famous so he could sing his songs to everyone. How he'd fallen in love music and then how much he'd hated everyone in the music industry.

"Why did you pick this place to run away to?" Michael asked.

"Because it was a small quiet town by the sea and I wanted a place where I wouldn't be recognised so I could start over," Luke explained, "you said you liked rock so I just guessed you wouldn't know me because my music was "pop"." Luke said, air quotes around pop. "I wanted to write cool ass songs about my actual feelings and about growing up and about changing the world, not sex and alcohol with hot girls in videos."

"And they made me believe that everyone wanted a skinny hot guy to fawn over, that my fans wouldn't see that I'd lost weight. They'd told me to throw up my food, if I didn't look the way they wanted me to, they'd drop me and at the time I didn't want to be dropped so I just went along with it." Luke sighed, "I just—I felt so used Mike."

Michael smiled softly at Luke's words, rubbing Luke's hand, "they really did control you didn't they?"

Luke nodded. "I hated how little control I had over my own life, I was mid twenties and still not allowed to date a boy."

"When did you realise you were gay?" Michael questioned.

"Eighteen, and instantly they forced a girlfriend on me. She was a bitch too." Luke grumbled, "they couldn't even pick a nice girl like really? Pick someone my fans would've liked."

"Like who?" Mike asked.

"Like Selena Gomez or Halsey or someone unproblematic as heck." Luke sighed, before he looked up at Michael. "I got my contract redone and I read through it all and crossed out having fake girlfriends so I didn't need to anymore when I was twenty one and over."

"I'm sorry you had to go through all of that." Michael smiled gently, his fingertips playing with Luke's fringe and pushing it from his eyes.

"I wasted over a decade of my life on something I ended up hating. I never thought I could hate music but I do." Luke said but Michael shook his head. "What?"

"You hate what comes with it, not the actual music. You still have that passion Luke." Michael smiled.

Luke sighed and leaned in to Michael, head on his arm.

"You know what you should do?" Michael said, making Luke hum.

"Record your own music, I have a friend who's in to that stuff and editing and you can play lots of instruments. Then release it from out of no where, and show people what you want them to hear. Show them the real you. But don't come back out in to the spotlight, stay hidden."

Luke looked up at Michael and kisses his chin, smiling. "Maybe one day."
