You decided this would be a good point to escape the crowd and a get a drink of water. As you walked over to the water barrel you saw Hanji looking at you intently. You turned to the barrel to pour your drink and spoke. "You alright there Hanji?" You saw her grin in the corner of your eye and you realised that she'd been watching your moment of spotlight in the kiss, marry, kill game. "So... You'd rather kiss Heicho than marry him. Care to elaborate?" She said inquisitively. You turned your head to look at her. You were blushing slightly and you explained "It was out of the options I was given. And anyway, I don't know if the Corporal would exactly be marrying material. Plus I know that Mikasa would be a protective wife." Hanji sniggered and looked up at you. "Well let me ask another question; do you want to kiss the Corporal?" Your stared at her mischievous face. "I don't have to answer that." You said plainly as you began to walk away. "So you do!" She practically shouted. "Otherwise you'd say no, but you don't want to admit it. Do you?". You went back over to her. "Look, don't go getting any ideas. I don't have a crush on Heicho. I respect him, but it's not like I want to be his little girlfriend or anything." Hanji giggled and replied "Actually, don't you think he'd be the little one?" She said laughing. You grinned and said "Hanji! You shouldn't make fun of the Captain like that! Haven't you heard he has a... short temper." You both laughed.
You loved making jokes, especially puns. Most people hated them though. In fact, Hanji was one of the only few people that found them as funny as you did. You were both still laughing until you felt the presence of someone behind you. Suddenly you were both silent and you looked behind you to see an angry Levi stood there. "Ah!" You shouted as you quickly turned around, almost losing your balance. "Oh, hey Captain." You said to him with a guilty smile. 'Oh god I hope he didn't hear us...' You thought.
"I was coming to get some tea when I heard my name, care to explain Cadet?" He said with that cold tone of voice. He seemed tired. "Ah, well me and Hanji-" You looked in the direction where Hanji was sitting and saw that she'd disappeared. "Dammit Hanji..." you said quietly. Levi was looking at you, still awaiting an explanation as to why he had been mentioned in your conversation. You gulped and continued "Well Hanji was here and we were just talking about... a thing... that happened... earlier..." "Tck..." Muttered Levi as he walked off into the kitchen. "Well then." You said out loud. "I think I'm a go to sleep before this night gets any more awkward."
You left the mess hall and wandered off to you room. Higher ranking soldiers in the Survey Corps got their own quarters, not you though. You just had your bedroom with an on-suite bathroom. It was nice though. You knew that Erwin, Hanji, and Levi had their own quarters with a study, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a sitting area. Once you arrived at your room you changed into your pyjamas and got into bed. It'd been a long, tiring day. But all you could think about was that game of kiss, marry, kill. You kept thinking about what Hanji said, and what you said. "Do I like Corporal?" You said to yourself. You started to think about the times you had fought and trained with him. It was nice, you liked the way he acted and you thought he was kinder than he first seemed. No matter how rude people thought he acted or how arrogant he was, it all just brushed past you and you saw what no one else did. You decided to drop the subject for now and get some rest, you had maneuver gear practice in the morning so you needed to be alert. "No, he's just a good comrade that I'm friends with. Thats all." You said quietly as you closed your eyes and settled down to fall asleep.
