Chapter 17- Almost

Joey's POV

I heard some noises close by right after Shane fell asleep. I look over at Dan and Phil. They seem concerned too.

Joey: Come over here.

They sit next to Shane. I grab I knife and walk away from the tree. When I'm not in view of the tree Mitch and Jerome jump out and push me against a tree.

Jerome: How's you're boyfriend?

Joey: How dare you hurt him! He almost died!

Jerome: Let's fix that. Mitch hold him!

Jerome runs off. I look at Mitch desperately.

Joey: Please?

Mitch: You beat me up.

He lets me go. I nod and run after Jerome. He has Shane by his neck.

Joey: Jerome! Stop!

Jerome: You can join him.

Jump onto his back. He drops Shane and spins around trying to shake me off his back.

Shane: J-joey!

I hop off and kick Jerome. I start pushing him away. I also take his axe and smash it against a tree.

Joey: Stay away or I will take you down!

I run back to Shane. He picks himself off the ground and runs into my arms.

Joey: Are you ok Shane?

I start to cry and I stroke his hair. He hugs me back.

Shane: Yeah. I'm fine now.

Joey: I won't leave you next time. I swear.

BOOM!

I whip my head around. No ones behind us so I feel slightly safe.

Shane: Let's go to sleep.

Joey: Climb the tree with me.

Shane: No! These trees are so tall!

Joey: Come on. Trust me.

Shane's POV

He started to climb up until he found a branch. He climbed back down and stuck out a hand. I hesitantly took it.

Joey: Just trust me. Kay?

I nod and let him pull me up. The higher we climb the more my head spins. I feel like I'm gonna fall. But Joey picks me up by my waist and sets me down on the branch across from him.

Joey: I would never let you fall.

BOOM!

I almost fall over. Joey grabs me. He laughs at me they places my in the sleeping bag. He slides in and ties the rope around us. I turn over and hug him.

Joey: Let's get moving tomorrow if you're still feeling ok.

Shane: Sounds great.

*Next Morning*

I wake up and Joey is smiling at me. I smile back and kiss him. I wonder how longs he's been watching me.

Joey: Let's climb down.

He takes the sleeping bag and climbs down. I nervously inch down. I feel like I'm gonna fall.

Joey: Come down!

Dan: You can do it!

Phil: We'll catch ya!

I doubt them. I slowly inch down again until my grip slips. I fall until I hit the ground and land on top of Joey.

Shane: Sorry Joey. You ok?

Joey: Am I ok?! You just fell out of a tree!

I sit up and I feel pain shoot up my arm. I wince and Joey looks at me nervously.

Joey: What did you do?

I test my arm a bit by moving it and bending it. I wince and bit my lip so I don't scream out in pain.

Shane: I... might've broke it...

Joey: Oh Shane! What are we supposed to do now?!

Shane: Easy. Make a sling.

We take a spare shirt and make a sling for my arm. Joey carefully slips in but I still shed a tear. He kisses it then gives me a hug, careful to not hurt my arm.

Joey: Ready guys?

Phil: Yep.

Dan: Let's go!

I guide us back to the Cornucopia. Then we see Mitch and Jerome. I back up and bump into Joey. He puts a protective arm around my waist.

Jerome: Came to your senses?

Joey: Hell no! I won't team!

Mitch: Let's just leave them alone ok? Shane would only drag us down.

I knew Mitch was on our side. He was trying to sound offensive. I gave him a small smile. Then they ran off.

Phil: We can make a tent.

Dan: Yeah. I think we should stay away from trees...

We all laugh as they run off to make the tent.

Joey: I don't know what to expect next.

I do. The plan. I look up at the sky. Soon enough we'd be safe. I smile and lay against Joey chest. He holds me as we watch the sunset.

Lisa's POV

Lisa: It's go time people! The plan has officially started! You know what to do! Stick to the orders!

I got conformation form each unit. I sit back in my chair and watched Chad.

Chad: You ready? No going back now.

Lisa: I know. I just hope Shane really thought this through. But most importantly is to take care of Joey.

Chad: He knows not to stray far from Joey.

Lisa: Let's hope he can do that, stubborn jerk...

Chad: Put away your feelings. We are about to start an all out war.

Lisa: I know. I alway knew...

I turn back to the TV.

Please don't screw this up Shane!
