Chapter 12- The Arena

Joey's POV

Sam: Today's the day! Get up!

I roll over and wait for his eyes to open. When they do I smile and pull him into a hug.

Shane: Good morning.

Joey: You ready?

Shane: Nope. And I don't think you are either. You're shaking.

I am? I didn't notice. He gives me a kiss and holds my hands.

Shane: Hey. Calm down. Everything will be fine. Remember I'm gonna find you.

Joey: When you do you need to hug me and never let go.

Shane: I wish I could. But I will give you a hug.

We get up and get dressed. We get in the elevator with Sam and Chad. They put us in the hovercraft. We get the trackers injected into our arms then we take off.

My eyes kept darting over to Shane. He's smiling, trying to comfort me.

It's not working.

When we arrive they throw me into a room. I'm shaking like crazy now. Julianna comes in and dresses me. I cling to her. I don't wanna go.

Julianna: Everything will be fine. I know it will.

She walks us over to the tube. She pushes me in. It's starts to move. And now I'm out on the open.

Shane's POV

I slowly step into the tube. I know Joey is freaking out. But that doesn't matter because I'll see him out in a few seconds.

I look around. We're in some sort of rainforest. There's mud and little swamps everywhere.

My eyes search the Tributes for Joey. I see him and we lock eyes. I can tell he wants to burst into tears. I give him a look telling him that I'm coming soon.

I see Joey start to shake. I hope I can get to him in time.

Go!

I run towards Joey whose grabbing a backpack near the center. Suddenly I'm jerked backwards. Someone is dragging me away from Joey.

Shane: Jo-

They covered my mouth with their hand. I look up and gasp.

Shane: Jerome?

Jerome: Shut up!

Shane: Why not kill me now?

Jerome: I knew you were useless... I'm saving you for Joey. We need him.

Shane: We?

Jerome: Mitch and I.

I look up and see Mitch approach Joey. He was just about to turn this way!

Joey's POV

Mitch walks up to me. I back away.

Mitch: I'm not gonna hurt you.

I exhale and relax slightly. I look around for Shane. I can't find him.

Mitch: Team with me. We can find him.

Joey: I'll pass.

And with that I run off in search for Shane.

Shane's POV

Once we're deep into the forest he lets go of me. I remember exactly how we got here so I can escape.

But then I look at Jerome. He has a sharp axe in his hand. Along with a backpack probably holding good supplies.

I don't stand a chance. He smirked.

Jerome: I wouldn't run if I were you.

He picked up his axe and started swinging it around. I backed up until I hit a tree. Too late to run now.

Joey's POV

I ran through the forest aimlessly. I needed to find Shane and fast.

Joey: Shane!

X: Phil!

I ran into someone we both jumped back. I had a knife but he had nothing.

Joey: I won't hurt you. What's your name?

X: Oh thanks so much! And I'm Dan.

Joey: Hey Dan. I'm Joey.

Dan: Oh I remember you! I guess you're looking for Shane.

Joey: Yeah. And your looking for someone named Phil?

Dan: Yeah.

He looked down and blushed. I laughed. I can't help but feel like that what I looked like back int he Arena the first time.

Joey: I'll help you find him. Team?

Dan: Oh thank you! And I'll help you find Shane too!

Joey: Great!
