"Go long!" Frank yells, his bright smile contrasting to the darkness of the night, his hand winding back as he readies himself to throw the football he grasps in an inked hand. You jog backwards, doing your best to not trip over Sweet Pea and Mama and the rest of the dogs in the misfit pack that are yapping, chasing you as you run.
The night is clear and still, and there's just enough moonlight to be able to see clearly. The stars are shining and even the dogs seem to be smiling as they pant and yelp happily.
"I've got it!" You exclaim, the football twirling through the air towards you. You must have missed the second Frank tossed it, but you could see it coming at you now in midair.
You reach your arms out to catch it, and just as you're sure that the ball is yours, one of your bigger dogs, Texas, crashes into you. You stumble slightly but you quickly regain your balance, then you look up as though you were still expecting the ball to be in the air.
"Aw man, c'mon Tex!" You groan as you see the football fumbling away on the ground a few feet behind you.
"I thought you had it, baby!" You hear Frank yell towards you, pausing between his wheezing laughs just to taunt you playfully. You look over at him and he's clutching at his stomach with one hand, laughing at what had just taken place in front of him.
"That wasn't even fair, Frank! You threw it when I wasn't looking!" You whine, walking over to pick up the ball where it'd landed.
"Hey, that's not my fault!" he raises his hands in defense, and grin still plastered across his features. "C'mon, gimme the ball and we'll try that again." Frank takes a couple of steps closer to you, his hands outstretched and gesturing at the football. You narrow your eyes and hold the ball closer, clutching it to your chest.
"Uh-uh! It's my turn! Go back!" You demand.
Frank looks surprised for a moment, one of his perfect eyebrows going up in surprise, but that quickly changes into a sly grin.
"I don't think so, missy. Hand it over!" Frank nears you even more, almost in arms reach.
Your grip on the ball tightens.
"I will do no such thing!" You exclaim before shooting off, running as fast as you can away from Frank. "It's mine now, you cheater!" You yell as you run, gasping as you hear the sound of quick footsteps behind you, along with the barking sounds of the dogs running around wildly. You turn your head and see Frank. laughing manically as he chases behind you. Oh god. You think to yourself, not having thought that he would actually go after you. You turn your head, and let out a curse as you do.
"Son of a bitch!" You let out as you see Sweet Pea, right in front of you, not moving but just standing there looking at you with those blasted bug-eyes of hers. You halt to a stop, almost tripping over her. The relief of not running over her only lasts for a second as you feel something push you off balance from behind.
You nearly topple over face first, but a pair of strong arms wrap around you and help steady you before you can do so.
"Oh god (Y/N) are you okay?! I didn't hurt you, did I?" Frank asks frantically, turning you around so you can look at him. His eyes are worried.
"I'm fine, Frankie." You answer breathlessly. "You only pushed me a bit, it's alright." You smile at him as your breathing beings to slow.
"Oh god, good." He lets out a breath of relief, and you can see a few beads of sweat along his forehead.
"I think your babies are out to get me." You say with a giggle, gesturing towards his playing dogs as you let yourself plop down onto the grassy ground, letting the ball drop out of your hands. The cool dew refreshes you as you let yourself fall the rest of the way onto your back.
Frank scoffs before joining you, taking a spot next to you on the grass.
"I think you're just mad because you can't outrun me." Frank says, sticking his nose in the air dramatically as he curls up next to you on the grass. You can hear the dogs playing on their own nearby, having lost interest now that no one was running or throwing a ball.
"Oh shut up. If your minions hadn't sabotoged me then I totally would have gotten away." You smile as you nuzzle closer to him, and Frank gives you a quick peck on the cheek.
The flow of conversation stops there, and you lay there in Frank's arms as you look up at the dark sky. After a few minutes of content silence, you speak.
"So many stars in the sky..." You mumble.
"What?" Frank asks with an amused smile.
"Nothing."
You tilt your head to look at Frank. You can see the outline of the scorpion tattoo on his neck, and his skin is pale in the moonlight. You smile.
"I love you, Frank. Even though you're a big cheater."
Frank lets out a dramatic gasp.
"Well I love you too (Y/N), even though you suck at football." Frank grins and winks at you as you laugh.
"Whatever, Frankie." You whisper as you lean in, pressing your lips against his.
He kisses you back sweetly, there underneath the stars, and once the kiss is broken the two of you lay out underneath the stars and the moon and the sky for hours, just talking until the both of you are too tired to form words. Then just you lay there in silence, entagled in each other's arms, keeping each other warm until it's time to stumble back inside, the football long forgotten outside.
