CHAPTER THIRTEEN - Fear

I woke up the next morning with a funny feeling in my stomach. "Aaron!" I called out. He burst through the door like the axe man in Little Red Riding Hood. "What!? What is it!?" he yelled in fear. "I'm cold." I said smiling. He grinned and pulled my blanket down and jumped in bed beside me. I laid my head in his chest and listened to his heartbeat like a hammer against cloth. "We're leaving tomorrow" I said wanting to cry. "We'll wake up early tomorrow and spend time together. Okay?" he asked, reassuring me. He hugged me tighter and I smiled. Mum came in and smiled at us. "You love birds better make your way to the kitchen. Breakfast is up! The works!" I laughed, embarrassed by my Mum's outburst. "We'd better go," Aaron said sitting up. I poured and sat up to the side. "Do we have to?" I asked with a fake miserable look on my face. He smiled, "Alright, five more minutes."

I pulled my shirt up over my head and began walking down the hall. Aaron met me out the front of my door and took my hand. He flared his eyes and licked his lips. "Brekkie!" he exclaimed fist pumping. I smiled and grasped his hand tighter. "Come on sloth!" he said, lifting me onto his back. I felt safe, with my skin on his. I inhaled deeply to smell his smell. I rested my head on his shoulder with my arms wrapped tightly around his collar bone as he staggered down the hall. "I don't wanna leave," I said, losing all happy expression on my face. "I promised we'd spend all today and tonight together," I smiled, he'd again comforted me with words.

The table was full of all sorts of varieties of food. Pancakes, fruit, toast, bacon and eggs. Mum wasn't kidding about 'the works'. Carly and Rob were laughing at the boys who were tangling themselves in the totem tennis string. Liam and Greg had spun little Greg and Thomas into the string and tightened it around the pole. I wanted to cry, knowing that this amazing feeling of belong was going to fade. My family and the Mayers. Our life long friends.

I spent the day with Aaron by the esturay. "I love you Melissa," he said smiling. i looked at himand threw my arms around him as we sunk back in the grass. "I love you too" I said smiling and squeezing him tighter. I never wanted this feeling of purity and saftey to devour. I really did love him, and I know it sounds like a cliche love story, but I trully did. He sat up and looked across the water. I pulled myself up to my stomach. "It's quite pretty," I blantly pointed out. "Yeah," He began, "Shame it smells really bad," I giggled at him, realising that it actually had a really bad pong. "Bore water," I explained, "That's the kind of water in the ablution blocks." "You mean we shower in it?" he asked, with disgust on his face. "Rank!" he exclaimed. I laughed at him and sat up beside him. "Did I tell you about my friend in the car crash?" I asked, attempting to contain conversation. He shook his head, "Nah, but I did hear something about it on the news. His name was Callum right?" I nodded hesitantly. "Callum Whiteshaw." I told him how they were going to a party and the driver sped up at the wrong time, and accidently killed Callum when they slammed into a boulder. Aaron lost all expression in his face. "Shit," I nodded, "Yeah," I began "I value life so much more after losing him, oh, and Grandad." He looked at me and showed sympathy. I smiled "Thanks" He grinned at me. "I just wish I could fix this. I wish I could bring them both back for you. I smiled and looked at the ground. This boy was incredible. Grandad was my guardian angel, Dad was my protector, but Aaron, was my superhero.
