CHAPTER FIVE – Eruption

I woke to the smell of bacon and eggs. I arose and found my ripped jeans and ACDC shirt which I just chucked over my bra and underwear. I looked in the mirror. I looked horrible. I hardly slept an hour last night. I gaped at my big blue eyes. They seemed broken. A black ring surrounded them making them look a lot brighter than they actually were. I combed my fingers through my short brown hair before walking outside. Aaron was standing across from my room. “You didn’t sleep very well, did you?” I shook my head. “Not really,” I said. “I can’t help but think about Grandad. I try not to be sad, but he just gets to me at the worst of times.” My tears began to well up. “Hey,” Aaron began, “he wouldn’t want you grieving.” He said in attempt of comforting me while I cried. He pulled me into a warm hug; his strong arms around my emotionally exhausted body. I was so tired that my emotions just erupted. I felt embarrassed I had broken down in front of him, but I was so glad he was there. His arms were masculine and tanned. He wore a purple wrist band and a shark tooth around his neck. He was two heads taller than me, so I could comfortably rest my head in his shirt. I felt safe in his arms. I was something I hadn’t felt in years. It was good to gain that back again.

We walked outside to our families laughing and eating breakfast. I’d always dreamt of this; our family smiling and laughing, getting along and living for the moment. It was comforting to see the people I loved smiling again. Although my Grandad never left my mind; I was happy.

At the moment, all that mattered to me was my families’ happiness and Aaron. I looked at him as the ute drove down the freeway. The four boys were in the back and my parents were in the front. Carly and Rob were in the car behind us. The boys were discussing what to do first at our day at the beach. “Sandcastles! ” Liam said excitedly. “Don’t be stupid!” Thomas exclaimed, “I’m burying you as soon as we get there!” “I’m going for a swim,” Greg stated, “Me too,” Little Greg agreed. Aaron glared back at them,, “I'm going to bury you all if you’re not quiet!” he joked turning back around to face the front. I was still looking at him; his jet black hair sticking out of its place and his dark brown eyes sparkling in the late morning sun. He had a dark freckle above his upper lip and another beside his eye. He had his masculine arm holding onto the handle inside the car window, and his other rested on the seat separating us. I restlessly folded my arms in my lap and looked out the window, resting my head on the transparent screen. “What’s up?” he asked tilting his head to see my eyes.

“Nuffink,” I said, slacking off on my English. “I just want to be at the beach in the sun.” He smiled at me and reached for my hand. We drove in complete silence the whole way, but I didn’t mind. Aaron was grasping my hand like his life depended on it. It was a nice feeling. I liked holding his hand. They were rough against mine, but I didn’t care. When we arrived at Pyramid’s beach, I reached for my seatbelt to unplug it. I looked up at Aaron who was already outside my door. He opened it and helped me out. He picked me off the seat and lowered me to the floor. “You’re beautiful,” He whispered.
