CHAPTER FIFTEEN - Confrontation

Aaron and I had planned to meet in the hall at midnight and then sneak down to the esturay. He kissed me lightly on the lips before we parted to go to our seperate rooms. I shut the door and looked to the moonlit window. The moons glow beamed on my messy suitcase. It was ten to ten, so I jumped in bed and put on my alarm. The jumper Aaron bought me, wrapped around me, and my necklace resting on my chest. I slowly shut my eyes. The more I slept, the quicker midnight came.

My alarm sounded, I pressed stop and my alarm silenced. I shriveled around so I was sitting up and my feet were on the floor. Across from me was the mirror. I stood up and walked over to it to inspect myself. My hair was messy and my short legs looked scrawny in the skin tight leggings I was wearing. My jumper was haltered on one shoulder, and my eyes were still looking quite broken. 'That'll do.' I thought after combing my fingers quickly through my hair. I reached for my door handle and pulled it open. Aaron was nowhere to be seen. I opened up his room's door. "Wakey wakey, sleep..." I stopped. The bed was fully made, and it looked as if no one had ever touched the room. "What the f..." I was baffled. I went in and checked on the boys. The matresses and sleeping bags that were once there were nowhere to be seen. Greg rolled over around in his sleeping bag. "Mel?" he asked, "Sorry Greg, go back to sleep." I grasped the necklace around my neck as I shut the door and walked away. I smelt the jumper. Damp earth and lynx. Was I going crazy? My confused brain turned into a worried brain. I burst out the dorm to see the spot where the Mayers had parked their car was just a spot of fried grass. I walked around the park, but still no sign of the Mayers. My barefeet were heavy on the pavement, as I walked towards the esturay. There was not a living thing in sight. I sighed deeply. "No," I said as tears began to prick at my eyes. They were threatening to fall.

I ran towards the enterance of the park shouting his name, "Aaron! Aaron! Where are you?!" I shouted. I ran towards the freeway still shouting for him. I felt my phone buzz in my pocket, I looked down at it, stopping in the middle of the road. I heard a large horn as I turned around to face it, a bright light blinded me before everything around me turned black. I felt as if I was floating. Everything around me was flashes of memories. I saw my thirs birthday, and my little brothers graduation from high school. I saw Mum and Dad waving me off before I go on my plane, and my Grandfather on his deathbed. Then I saw Aaron. Smiling wih me, laughing with me, lifting me, and kissing me. The magical night of my birthday, and the amazing feeling I felt with him before everything returned to black. "NO!" I screamed before falling.

I felt no physical pain. Only emotional. Aaron and his had left early and left me to myself. I awoke in a lightly lit field where I was in a wedding dress. I heard a rustle in the bush as I lifted my head to confront it. Aaron emerged in a suit with a box in his hand. "Aaron! You're okay!" I exclaimed "Where am I?" I asked fluttering my eyelids at him. "With me, in the afterlife." I looked down. "You're dead? I'm dead? What happened?" I exclaimed in disbelief. "You ran out on the freeway, when we were meant to meet up. I'd taken the boys to the ablution blocks when you came looking for me. I was worried you'd thought I'd ditched you," He said in a croaky voice. "But your bed was mad,e and all the boys stuff disappeared. Your car was gone, and Carly and Rob too!" I exclaimed, "I don't understand!" I yelled as tears began to fall from my eyes. "You don't have to, we're here together now. Don't worry." He pulled the box open to show a ring. I gasped. "Marry me," I nodded biting my lip, as he placed the ring gently on my finger. I smiled up at him. When he arose, he picked me up. "We'll be fine." he whispered. I passionatley kissed him as he waltzed with me in the field. I wrapped my arms tightly around him as he bit my neck. I pulled myself out of the trance he put me in as soon as his teeth touched my skin. "I still don't get why you're here though Aaron. How are you dead?" He looked uncomfortable. "I-I saw you get hit by the truck, and I ran to pull you away from the road, the boys ran back to the dorm and an ambulance was called. But it was too late. Months past and I became so lonley." I shuddered. "I was always in my room crying." I cringed, because I knew what he had done. "Don't." I said cutting him off. "I don't want to know what I made you do. I am so sorry." My eyes re-teared and I burst out in sobs. He held me in comfort. "It's not your fault."
