4 Months Later

Benjamin

"Okay class we will start out mentoring program tomorrow. From now on you and this little boy or girl will bond and become friends. This is important so weekend activities are a must also daily." Mrs. Burns says.

My hand quickly shoots up.

"Yes Benjamin it's for a grade." Mrs. Burns chuckles.

Jessie

"Jessie if you don't sit down and hush!" Mrs. Johnson yells from her desk. "Sorry. I was just asking Ashley something."

"You can do that later. Anyway the mentoring starts soon so I want you to be on your best behavior. From the looks of it some of you need it more than others." Mrs. Johnson looks at me.

"Can I go to the restroom!" I blurt out. "Can you raise your hand and stop disturbing my class?" Mrs. Johnson asks. "Baby I don't have time for the mind games can I go pee or not?"

"Yeah and go to the principal office after." Mrs. Johnson smirks. "Gladly beautiful." I say winking at her.

Toni

"Jessie that's sexual harassment you can't do that!"

"I'm sorry mom but it didn't go exactly like how she wrote it down." Jessie says.

"I don't want to hear it just wait until your father gets home." I walk away.

"Noooooooo mommy please don't tell dad!" Jessie cries grabbing my legs. "I'm sorry I won't do it again I promise." Jessie cries.

I hesitate for a moment and think about everything.

"Okay. But from now on no more acting out."

"I promise." Jessie says hugging me.

Kenny

"He did what!"

"Shhhh lower your voice. I handled it already he promised he wouldn't mess up again. Plus he's getting a mentor and I know it'll help." Toni calmly says.

"It better or military school is the next step."

"Military school? My baby isn't going to me in anything like that." Toni puts her hands on her hip.

"Let his little ass keep keep showing out and he will be." I peck Toni's lips.

Next Day

Benjamin

"Ben you'll going to be assigned to a little boy named Jessie." Mrs. Burns says. "Uhhh it's Benjamin but aight cool."

Mrs. Burns sighs deeply as she shakes her head at me.

"I hope this little boy teaches you something. Mrs. Burns says.

My friends and I were walking down to the middle school section of the school.

"I hope my mentee isn't a little smart ass." Chris says. "I hope he is. It's funny when you get mad."

We enter the room and I quickly scan it. This one little boy stands out to me.

"May I help you?" The teacher asks. "Yes ma'am. I'm looking for Jessie."

The little boy that looked very familiar got up and walked towards me. We walked out of the hallway and into the courtyard.

"I'm Benjamin but you can call me Ben or B if you like." The boy looks at me unconcerned. "Look man we have to do this so get with the program."

"I'm Jessie." He mumbles. "So what do you like to do Jessie?"

"Hangout with friends, play video games, play the guitar and piano oh and eat." Jessie says. "We're going to get along great!" I say dapping Jessie off.

"So this is where I live." Jessie says getting off his bike. "Cool I'll be over tomorrow at noon to hangout."

Danny

"Janet did you take your medicine?"

"Yes I did! Now stop asking me that shit I'm fucking grown." Janet yells. "You ain't grown you're just a old ass child!"

"Boy I don't have time for this!" Janet walks away. "Janet it's a full bottle of pills here!"

"So?" Janet rudely asks. "So that means your ass haven't taken any."

Janet snatches the bottle from me and takes her recommended dosage.

"Happy now!" Janet snaps. "Very! And don't let the shit happen again!"

Benjamin stands in the doorway looking at the floor. I quickly change the topic.

"How was mentoring Benjamin?"

"It was great dad. The little boy I got is cool we're going to hangout tomorrow." Benjamin says.

"Do you need a ride over there tomorrow?" Janet asks Benjamin. "No ma'am I'll ride my bike." Benjamin says walking upstairs.
