CANDICE'S POV:
"Morning sleepy head" Ash was already watching me sleep and wake up.
"Did I really sleep long?" I muttered half woozy and half awake.
"Longer than you should, yes, surprisingly. I guess that means no more of my blood for you" he gave a cheeky smile.
"I wasn't going to ask. Especially since I know the side effects now" I teased. "By the way, where's your brother?"
"He went in search for human food. I know you don't really eat anything if it's not something with blood"
"Sadly, you are correct little wolf. Which only means one thing. I need to go back" I confessed.
"You're going back to those vampires?! Are you crazy?" he bursted out in disbelief and raised eyebrows.
"I need to save a couple of vampires"
"Your mate?" he muttered in disbelief.
"Yeah. How'd you guess?"
"I can smell something on you. The same smell as the first time I met you. You smell like him" he revealed.
Smelling like Darren was really heartbreaking. What if that was the only thing I could do if Damien killed him? I would be a widow that only remembered her mate when his scent came across a breeze. I couldn't bare the thought of Darren not being alive, even if we did fight and kept our distance. Death was too far fetched to consider and live with.
"Will you be my partner in crime and help me get him back?" I proposed the idea in hope.
He gave me a funny look. One that read 'are you crazy serious right now?'.
"Please?" I begged, pressing my palms in motion.
"Let's say I do help you, and we make it out alive. What then? Will I never see you again?" he asked with a gloomy expression.
"Well, what do you want most in life? I'll make any wish of yours come true" I promised.
"I don't want to live alone with Alex out here. I want to be in a community, I want to be around people. Don't get me wrong, Alex takes really good care of me, but I want someone else to talk to. Someone else to understand and get to know"
"Is that why you wanted me to stay? You want to get to know someone else?" I asked.
"Yeah. I want to work somewhere fun. Meet someone. Have a shower that doesn't depend on the raining season"
"If we make it out alive, I'll let you and your brother join a pack. Would you like to be with your kind? Have an alpha guide you and your brother and meet someone like you?" I proposed.
"I don't think Alex likes packs. I think that's the reason why we're out here in the wild. He got into fights with so many alphas that no one wants to claim us into their pack. I think it's better if we blend in somewhere"
"Alright, then you two can live in my castle. Be helpful to house duties, for some time, until you find a profession you like. The vampires I know don't have problems with other creatures, so long as they are respectful and steer clear of their way" I declared. "I'm sure you won't bother much but you should definitely keep an eye on your brother. I know he can come off a bit prickly with a cold shoulder, but I'm sure he has a warm beating heart deep down"
"What exactly are you trying to say, Vampire?"
An unhappy tone was coming out of Alex's (SilverEyes') voice box.
"Exactly what you heard, Wolf"
"You want us to help you, yet you insult me?" Alex clarified in disbelief.
"I'm not insulting you in anyway. I'm trying to help you, once you help me. I was asking Ash to watch your back" I interpreted.
"You don't have to ask him to watch me. We already have eachother's back because we're family. You shouldn't be ask to protect your blood. It's an instinct"
"Look, are you going to help me or not?" I crossed my arms in confusion. I was so irritated at the fact that he insisted on picking a verbal fight with me when I was clearly asking for help.
"We are NOT. We don't associate ourselves in otherworldly conflicts" he fronted.
"Alex! What the hell?! She needs our help!" Ash rebelled.
"She's a vampire. What help does she need?" Alex rolled his eyes in exaggeration.
"I need someone to have my back" I retorted. "That means someone to make a diversion, someone to lure the guards away from their posts, someone to help me find something in a limited amount of time, someone to be my look out, someone who..."
"I GET IT!" Alex exhaled in annoyance. "Fine! We'll help. But only if you promise me one thing"
"Anything, name it" I said elastically.
"We get Lydia"
