Adrien sat beside me, breathless and exhausted. His eyes scanned the crowd as if he was looking for something - or someone. I could practically see the gears cranking and turning in that blond head of his. He turned to look at me and grinned as he realized I was staring the whole time.
"Do me a favor, Princess - stop drilling holes into the side of my head with your eyes. It's distracting me," remarked Adrien.
"I am not drilling holes into the side of your head with my eyes. I'm simply looking."
"Oh? And may I ask what you're looking at?" Adrien moved closer, our faces inches apart.
"At that disgusting pimple on your cheek. Do you think Lila wou-" I was cut off by Adrien as he quickly covered up his left cheek with a hand. He dug in his bag and plucked out a mirror. He flipped open the cover and slowly tore his hand off his cheek, only to reveal flawless skin. Adrien turned his attention back to me, face heating up from embarrassment.
"Oh you little..." muttered Adrien. He smirked broadly, mischief dancing in his eyes. It was enough to wipe the smirk off my face. He got up from his seat, never breaking eye contact and raised his hands up like bear stalking its prey.
"Run, Princess," he commanded, quickly followed by a wicked snarl. I jumped to my feet and ran across the waiting area, carefully weaving through the sea of suitcases and sleeping travellers. My pace quickened as Adrien's footsteps got louder and louder. The cold air that caressed my face blocked most sounds from entering my ears and made my eyes water. I felt as if I was a child running through a meadow in full bloom during spring, excitement and anticipation flowing through my veins. The steps behind me got louder and louder causing me to squeal and run faster.
The waiting area was enormous. The rows of metal chairs looked like a shining silver maze under the moonlight, begging to be crossed.
And so I did.
I picked up my pace and dashed through the rows, making a sharp turn here and a sharp turn there. The floor squeaked beneath my shoes as I rounded the corner of the thirteenth row of chairs. I spared a second to look back at Adrien. He didn't look tired at all - his green eyes were ablaze with happiness and his smile broad and shining. His warm laughter filled the air as he chased after me, every step he took spoke of the freedom he rarely had. I looked forward again, - focused on the goal of not letting Adrien catch me - but a man's broad figure stood in front of me. He was less than five meters away, and I was too fast to stop. I tried my best to slow down and veer left, but my body thought otherwise. My feet skidded to a halt which caused me to fall flat on my back and wince in pain as stars exploded behind my eyelids.
Adrien plopped down beside me, worry and fear etched all over his tan face. His hand brushed the hair away from my face, tucking it behind my ear. He gingerly lifted my head up and then he slowly pulled me up to my feet. Worried onlookers craned their necks to see if I was alright, but none of them called for a medic or a guard. I closed my eyes for a few seconds, willing my beating heart and energy-filled body to calm down. I snapped my eyes open, removed my draped arm around Adrien's shoulder, and smiled warmly at Adrien. The people around me looked so relieved that I was alright and they quickly went back to minding their own business.
"Princess, are you okay?" asked Adrien as he tilted my face to check for any wounds or bruises.
"I'm alright, Kitty. No need to fuss," I replied softly. The corner of his lips quirked up into a mischievous grin.
"Great. Because we're going to find you a guy with the potential to be your boyfriend," said Adrien. My eyes went - and stayed - as wide as saucers as he dragged me back to our spot in the waiting area. He made me sit down beside him. So that's what he was doing a while ago - he was looking for a guy who could be my boyfriend so I could get over Nathanael. Sneaky Kitty.
