Calleigh's POV
The door screeched and it opened. I saw a shadow standing and he was standing with a weak stance, clearly trying to catch his breath. He just looked at me and the wench that she was, Brandon's mother pushed the gun to my temple harder with her other hand grabbing as much hair as she can. I was already pleading so hard in silence that she spare my life. I still wanted to live and be with Brandon.
"Well, if it isn't my son. Have you come to rescue this damsel in distress?" she asked, her voice shaking as much as her hand was.
"Let her go. She has nothing to do with this."
"She has everything to do with this. She took you away from me. She needs to die now Brandon."
I tried so hard not to cry but it was too late. Maybe it was because of my fear. Maybe it was because I was angry at Brandon's Mom for putting us all in a very compromising position. I hated her because she didn't know the true meaning of love. I hated her for forgetting about her son when he needed her the most.
Brandon walked closer to where we were. Her mother continued to have her vice-like grip on my hair and I struggled to keep my erratic breathing in control. The way she pulled my hair told me that she would be more than willing to pull all of it so that I would look bad.
"Don't come any closer or you'll see her brains blown up right before your eyes."
"We can talk about this. Please, let her go."
"I won't! She's the reason why you chose to live away from me. When she's gone, you'll come back to me."
Then I heard her pull the trigger.
"Brandon! I love you! Remember that..." I screamed. I guess it was the only coherent thought left in my head. If she was going to pull the trigger then there won't be any other time to tell him how I really felt about him. Ever since Tim died, he showed me how to live again and for that I am so thankful.
"I'm going to get you out of this. I swear."
"You are choosing her over me? Why Brandon?"
"You never loved me."
Then I heard one gun blow coming from behind Brandon. There were two police officers standing by the door.
"Put your weapon down" one of them said but then Emilia kept on holding me.
"You're going to have to kill me first before you save this girl."
I knew that they didn't want any of us to end up dead. I knew that I didn't want to end up dead. It was hard for us to think that anyone of us could end up dead by the time that this ordeal was finished.
But then everything happened in a whirl. Brandon rushed to his mother's side and tried to grab the gun from Emilia's hand.
"Brandon don't! You'll get--" I screamed but then I was too late.
The shot was fired and I heard a body drop. Someone was wincing in pain and I didn't want to think that it was Brandon. But then all hope fled when I saw that a man was in pain before me. He had blood in his hands.
"No!" I shouted as one of the officers tried to get me loose from the bind that I was in. He then went on to call for medics and a back up.
Emilia stood there frozen as realization hit her that she has just shot her own son just because of a petty reason. She was jealous that no one was giving her attention anymore. I held Brandon closer to me asking him to keep on fighting for his life.
"Baby please, don't leave me. Brandon, please."
His pupils were starting to dilate and I started to panic. Was this going to be like Tim all over again?
The medics rushed into the scene and placed a nearly-unconscious Brandon on the stretcher. They tried getting his vitals checked and gave him whatever first aid that was appropriate for him. I followed them outside and rushed into the ambulance when a police officer stopped me.
"Ma'am, I'm afraid you can't go there. Your family is waiting."
"But what about Brandon? He needs me there."
"Cal, we're here." I hear Anthony's voice and rushed to him quick.
I felt like I was home but I wasn't just home enough. I was missing his touch.
"I need to go to him, Anthony. Brandon needs me." I said as tears started to run down my face.
"Okay. I'll drive you to the hospital after you've got a full meal and get cleaned up. I'll send someone over there to look after him."
"I don't want to go home yet. I want to follow that darn ambulance to the hospital and check if he's doing okay! Do you get that?"
I was whining like a spoiled brat but then this was the first time that someone literally took the bullet for me. It was hard for Anthony but I know that sooner or later he was going to give in to what I wanted. That's how much he loved me.
"Fine. Let's go."
I hugged him tight and thanked him profusely. Getting in the car, I told him to step on it. I want to be there when Brandon opens his eyes after the surgery.
