Brandon's POV

It felt like a bucket of cold water was poured over me. I can't seem to really pin point which emotion I was supposed to feel when Calleigh told me that she paid her a visit.

My mother was a scheming wench who only thought about her gain. She wasn't really a nice woman. In the course of thirty four years, she has made my life a living hell literally. There was no other way to say it and it wasn't that hard to comprehend. The only question was what did she want to dp with my relationship with Calleigh.

"Hey, are you okay? You seemed to have spaced out a bit." Her face paled after telling me that dear old Mum has come to pay her a visit in her office.

"What did she tell you?" I asked as I drew her closer to me. Her tensed body started to relax.

She took in a deep breath and looked into my worry filled eyes. I would do anything just to keep my wretched mother away from her.

"She told me that she just wanted to meet the girl who has captured your heart."

"That's it?"

"Yeah. I totally brushed her off saying that she had nothing to do with me and you anymore. She was shocked when I told her that she was never a mother to you and that she never deserved the title."

I was so proud of my girl, to be honest. There wasn't enough words to describe the swelling pride that I had in her. For her to say those words on my behalf proved how important I was to her and how good it was to slowly open to her about my past.

I cupped her sweet face between my hands and brought myself close for a kiss. I wanted to show her how thankful I was to have her in my life.

"Don't worry,babe. I'll do something about it."

She just embraced me and we stayed like that for the rest of the evening; me relishing her closeness and warmth and her finding peace despite the trouble that my mother has caused her.

The following day, I made sure of sending a message to a friend of mine who worked for the police. He owed me a couple of favors in the past and he was more than happy to track my mother down and give me intel about what she has been up to.

I wasn't surprised when he got back to me later in the afternoon that she was still using my money from the trust fund that my Dad gave me on my twentieth birthday. How she did was beyond me but knowing my Mom, she has a couple of dirty tricks right under her sleeves and she only used them when times got rough.

I had to tread the waters carefully so as not to catch my Mom's attention. She needed to know though that I was aware of what she was planning to do with me. It wasn't that hard to see that she was using Calleigh to get to me.

On Friday, I decided to pay the bank a visit. The day before that, I filed a complaint about the irregularities of the bank's loose regulations on the management of my trust fund. The person who was in charge of it was clearly in cahoots with my Mom.

I went there dressed sharply in a suit with a police officer as well as an attorney, totally catching the whole staff off guard.

The manager of the bank stood up and met us halfway in her office. She was a middle-aged woman who seemed to look friendly yet her appearance was only a ruse to get what she wanted from people.

"Gentlemen, what brings you here today?" she asked.

"Ms. Rodrigo, we'd like to speak to you in your office in private."

She swallowed hard as she tried to fight in making it obvious that she was shaking. Her answer came out as a nod as she lead us to her working quarters.

She tried to look calm but her shaking hands gave it away. As I took my seat, she eyed me suspiciously.

"I am here to talk about my trust fund. Now, before you get any idea of why I am doing this, I'd like to explain it to you myself. "

"Wha- what do you mean sir? No one has touched it."

"I already know that my Mom has already tried to get some of it and of course has bribed you so that you'll allow her to access it."

She looked dumbstruck. I bet she's wondering how I found out about it.

"The next time she tries to get money, tell her that the police will be following her every move and if she does not stop getting money from my trust fund, I would be more than happy to put her ass in jail. Are we clear Ms. Rodrigo?"

She nodded. Guilt and fear were written all over her face. This was the only way that I can get to her. If I stop her from getting money from my fund, she'll show up eventually. That's how her mind goes. This was the first step of me protecting Calleigh. We finalized everything with me signing a new contract with rules on how I wanted my money to be managed and that the only person who could access it was me. The bank was going to face serious charges if they didn't follow the protocol that I set.

-----------

Things seemed to go my way. Luck proved its use to me. Later that day, Ms. Rodrigo called me to tell me that Mom was fuming and that she was really trying to force the bank to give her some money from my fund but then she was denied. She talked with Ms. Rodrigo and she conveyed the message that I wanted my Mom to know.

She can't do anything now. She didn't have the resources to make her move. It was sad to think that I'm doing this to her but it's the only way that I can protect Calleigh. The first card has been turned and now it's my Mom's turn to turn hers.
