Brandon's POV
I wanted to kiss those lips but Maggie just busted in on us and told us that Calleigh's brother was there with a girl named Stephanie. I knew her brother and her brother knew me. We go way back in college when we got into the same fraternity and he eventually left because he wanted to focus on his studies. Yup. Definitely a trait of their family. Apparently, Calleigh's a good girl too.
After dropping out of college, I never got to see Anthony again. We weren't exactly the best buddies in the fraternity back then. I was really one of the bad boys and I normally skipped classes forcing my teachers to fail me in all of the subjects that I took.
Now, Calleigh and I just laughed and smiled at each other when Maggie left. She looked at me with a playful glint in her eyes and quickly kissed me. This just took my breath away and in a way, this was the first thing I learned about her. Calleigh was really showy about her feelings when she cares for someone even when she is acting so hard not to care.
"My brother's out there," she then said after she kissed me.
"And?"
"How am I supposed to introduce you to him? I mean are we really together now?"
"What do you think? You just stole a kiss from me." She giggled and swatted my arm playfully. "Really? That's it. You're not going to go out there and introduce me as your boyfriend."
She blushed and that was so adorable.
"Okay. I'll introduce you as my boyfriend."
We both walked hand in hand towards the living room where Calleigh's brother and the woman waited for us. She looked flushed from our encounter earlier but it was a nice contrast to her skin that was fair.
Anthony and the girl named Stephanie stood up as soon as they saw us coming in. The woman had a huge smile on her face as she approached us. Her brother on the other hand sent looks my way that I was sure was intended for my death. Lord, help me get through this.
"Hey guys! This is a surprise." The women exchanged cheek to cheek kisses while we, Anthony and I exchanged stern looks.
"Well, I don't know maybe it's because of my hormones, I think. I badly need someone to talk to" Stephanie answered. She looked at me and then sent a knowing glance to Calleigh. "And you are?"
"Oh this is uhm.. Brandon, my uh...boyfriend. This is Stephanie and that's my older brother Anthony. Stephanie's my brother's fiancee."
I can see the amusement coming from Stephanie's eyes as she tried to understand everything, Anthony in the other hand was already on the verge of shooting me. I shook both of their hands and when I shook Anthony's I felt as if my hand was caught between two metal knobs. His handshake was pretty firm.
We settled in the living room for a while dinner was getting prepared. I was hoping to find some escape from this whole thing. To be honest this was the first time that I was introduced as someone's boyfriend. I thought it was really that bad but it felt really good actually. There was a moment when Calleigh and I would just look at each other and smile. I could hold her close and run my fingers up and down her bare arm all thanks to the wife beater shirt she was wearing. I felt her shiver under my touch and it really was a good ego boost for me.
Dinner came and conversation flowed and it seemed that Anthony relaxed a bit to my relief but there were still moments that he'd look my way with a very stern appeal. I was really getting nervous. I wouldn't want to be alone with him because once we do get alone, I'd be totally grilled for sure.
Then dessert came and the women chose this time to bond in the pool area. I invited Anthony to have coffee in the living room. My nerves were already start to work but I had to stand this for my girl. That sounded nice. My girl. We were both quiet as we took a seat opposite each other.
"Let's cut the niceties and go straight to the point," he started as he set the coffee on the table separating us. "What do you want with my sister."
"I like your sister. I have nothing but good intentions for her."
"I remember you from college. We were in the same fraternity," he said. Oh boy, here we go. He shook his head in disapproval. "You had quite a reputation with the ladies until you dropped out of college."
"People change."
"How sure are you that you won't hurt my sister?" he retorted. "She's gone through hell in relationships and if you hurt even a strand of her hair on her pretty head, I'll move heaven and earth just so I can drag you to hell." That's one way to threaten your sister's boyfriend.
I knew that Calleigh was hesitant to open up and I also knew that it has been a long time since she had a really serious relationship and it was with Tim. I somehow had to prove that I was worthy of his sister.
"Look, I know that you are being protective with your sister. I get it. But there is nothing that I would do to hurt Calleigh. In the short time that I've known her, I just want to make her happy and love her as much as I can. That's it. If I do hurt her, I'd be glad to surrender myself under the limitations of your mercy."
"It's good that we're clear."
Silence enveloped the whole place. He rested quietly on the sofa, his legs crossed as he continued to sip his coffee. I was relieved that I was able to try to knock some sense into her older brother. Calleigh is dear to me and I love her.
"By the way, does she know about you and your past, Brandon?"
I shook my head and he gave me a sour, disappointed look on his face. Of course he knew and all the while he tried to hide and. I must say that he was good at concealing things.
"When are you planning to tell her?"
"I don't know yet. I'm still working on it."
He smirked at what I said as if he tried to believe in something.
"You better make sure that she won't end up getting hurt about this."
"I get that."
"Good."
