Ch 26-

I woke up the next morning, and Carter was sound asleep.

I lightly lifted my head off of his lap, but he wakes up. He's a very light sleeper

"Hey." He sleepily grumbles

"Hey. You still gotta pee?"

"Actually, yea." he says and gets up to go to the bathroom.

"I get out of bed, and walk halfway upstairs to hear my mom and stepdad fighting. I carefully eavesdrop on their conversation.

"You know she's trouble! You need to do something about her." My stepdad says

"I will not, get rid of her! How could you even suggest that!" my mom argues

"You know that she is going to get into trouble, just like before, now that her little boyfriends back from Dallas."

"Carter is not her boyfriend."

"Well he acts like it. I mean, why do you let them sleep in the same bed? You know what that will lead to!"

"They are best friends. They have been since they were in diapers, long before you joined this family. You need to accept him. He is good for her."

"He is absolutely not good for her. From what you told me about the things that happened before, she is going to get way out of hands. Again."

"Well what do you want me to do!?"

"Boarding school, boot camp, or kick him out." he emphasizes the word 'him'

"Well, none of the above are happening. You either accept my family, or you can leave." my mother says harshly

"What's going on?" Carter whispers

"Oh shit!" I jump from his sudden words, almost falling down the stairs, but he catches me before I do.

"Dude! What the hell!?" I whisper

"What are they talking about?" he asks again

"Come downstairs." I order

We walk back to my room and I explain the situation

"Wait, your dick of a stepdad wants me gone!?" he asks, obviously pissed

"Yea. I know. But don't bring it up around them. Please."

"So then what, Alex!? Then they kick me out and I have nowhere to go? Then what!? I have NOTHING!"

"Carter, babe calm down. My mom would never kick you out. Your more part of our family than he is. Don't worry, everything will be okay. Okay?"

"Okay...." he grumbles.

"Alright, now are you hungry?"

"Yes."

"McGee's?"

"Please" he grins

"Alright, lets get dressed. Then we can go."

"Thank ya!" he cheerfully replies

"You ready?" I hear from the other side of the bathroom door.

"Yea, Almost done." I say as I curl the last piece of my hair

I walk out of the bathroom and Carter is dressed in the usual black skinnys, combat boots, and a black T-shirt. But today, his T-shirt had no sleeves with the arm hole cut down to the bottom, so we were matching all in all.

"Lets go." he says.

I grab my bag and skateboard, and we head out

When we finally get to McGee's, a local country diner, Carter chooses to sit at a table close to the window.

We sit down, and are handed our menu's by our waitress.

"What do you want?" Carter asks me.

"Uhh, water, biscuits and gravy, and sausage."

"Alright. So the usual" he smiles at me

"You remembered."

"Duh" he jokes

Just then, the waitress comes back.

"Y'all ready to order?" she asks with a sweet southern accent, much like mine

"Umm, yea. I'll take an orange juice, with the plate of Bacon, plate of sausage links, deer jerky, scrambled eggs, and chocolate chip pancakes. She will have the biscuits and gravy, sausage plate, and a water." he smiles at her

"Will that be all?"

"Yes ma'am. Thank you" I reply with a smile

When our waitress walks away, Carter and I just talk.

"So, do you know why Griffin's back?" he asks me

"No, why would I know..."

"Just asking. Did you know he was back, before the fight?" he questions

I think he knows.

Before I can answer my question, the Raiders come strutting in through the door. Jose sees me, and points, as he whispers to Griffin. They walk over, and take a seat in the table directly across from us.

Great.
